Easy Vhs To Dvd

Derbug

Question

Just bought this software Easy VHS to DVD---brand new out of the box.

Had difficulty to receive a signal and then all of a sudden it worked and I made two discs and now it won't work at all. I tried both a VHS recorder and a VHS movie camera and it just won't work again.

We are using Vista

I think I have the workable solution to my problem.

If I start my computer and then plug in the video capture and then go away from the computer for at least 10 minutes and let it sit...then start the Roxio VHS to DVD program it will come up and works fine.

The computer going through what it needs when it starts up and whatever power demands the video capture needs, that this 10 minute time period allows everything to happen. If I don't hurry the start up process, it works for me and I can produce good quality DVD's.

The only USB device I am using on this PC is a cordless mouse. If I have the same problem again, I will use a corded mouse to reduce my USB power draw.

Thank you for all your intelligent input to this off and on situation.

I am now producing movies like Steven Speilburg.

Have you rebooted your computer? If you put one of the tapes in that did work before, does it still work?

I don't know what happened, This morning I uninstalled the program, then I rebooted and reloaded the program, it still didn't work.

This evening I loaded the program onto my husbands crappy laptop and it works, but the laptop doesn't have enough ram to process the input video and it loaded all choppy and unusable, so I brought the cords and vcr back to my desktop OH YEAH and I moved the USB cords around plugging it in a different port and NOW it is working.

So the best advice I have for someone like me (program worked then stopped working) Uninstall, reboot, move cords around, reload, repeat if necessary. (and maybe it's just Vista, I heard Vista has a lot of bugs)

Thanks for taking the time to try and help.

Keena,

Thanks for your suggestion. Here's an explanation.

The Roxio USB capture device contains a power-hungry complete little computer, as do most USB capture devices. Feel it after it has been working for a little while, and you'll find it's quite warm to the touch.

The USB specification says that a USB socket should be able to deliver 500 milliamps of current at 5 volts, and the Roxio USB device needs all of that to run properly. HOWEVER some motherboard manufacturers only allow 500 mA in total for all their USB sockets, hoping that you won't need that much power all the time. If other USB devices are attached you can run out of power, and the thing stops working. The same applies to unpowered "hubs" which you plug in to get more USB sockets.

Many PC manufacturers connect a number of their sockets to the motherboard by flying leads which are made of light caliber wire. These are fine for light current signals, but at high currents [like 500 mA] the wire drops the voltage it delivers to something noticeably below 5 volts, and the device will stop working.

For these reasons it's often a good idea to connect capture devices to a back socket (which is usually soldered directly to the motherboard rather than fed by light wires), or a powered hub (which has its own solid power supply)- rather than a front socket or a USB extension cable.

It is ROXIO Easy VHS to DVD. In the blue box.

As I said before:

This device wouldn't work...then I successfully recorded 7 DVD's with this device then it stopped working and then suddenly it worked and now it won't work at all.

This is my second unit. I returned the first one and they gave me another unit.

When it decides to work, I can use it for hours flawlessly but when it decides not to work, you can spend all day trying to get something done and it will not operate. I have downloaded the USB download that your website offers and that had no impact on the problem.

I have connected it to a VHS camcorder with audio cables and I have also connected to a Hi 8 camcorder with S-video cable --- no luck with either. I am using it on a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5895 laptop. It is about 12 months old. I am running Vista.

When I originally installed the software to my pc I did not have the video capture USB plugged in. In the getting started guide I did not see any mention that that needs to be done. On your website it clearly states that the USB must be plugged in before the software is installed. So I uninstalled the software---connected the video capture USB---and reinstalled the software.

Please, re-read post #2 and answer ALL the questions. If you are having trouble finding the Pinned posts refered to in post 2 there at the top of the VHS to DVD forum http://forums.support.roxio.com/forum/216-easy-vhs-to-dvd/

Telling us you have " ROXIO Easy VHS to DVD. In the blue box." is not much help.
