Capture Video Help

crossed

Question

Hi and thanks for reading, I'm having a little trouble and hope I can get a little help. When I click the button for capture video I get the working animation and then the animation disappears and then nothing else happens. Everything works fine when I select the plug and burn button... I can see the video and hear the audio for both my webcam and the "Video Capture USB" depending on which is selected from the drop down box so I dont believe it is an issue with the USB. I tried updating to service pack 2 after installation and got an error so if I could get advice on how to get that working I'd be very appreciative for that too!

Just a little additional information:

-I had the program installed before on Windows Vista and used it with zero problems, however, now I have recently reformatted with Windows 7.

-I tried to update after installation, but received this error: "Cannot delete target file: C:\ProgramFiles\Roxio2010\\videoui12\vuisettings.dll"

-I didn't open or try to run the program before updating, so I cannot say whether it worked before getting the update error.

-Version 1.2.198; 5.0.0.0 Build 121B98A, VHS; 500B35A, VHS

I have Windows 7 installed on the machine where I can't get it to work... last night I tried the repair utility and then tried to reinstall but neither of those did anything for me. I just installed it on my wife's Vista laptop and it is working as we speak. It worked on mine when I had Vista and now it doesn't work with Windows 7, so it has to either be something with the OS or something that was changed during reformat.

Anyway, I'm stumped, too bad I couldn't get it to work, it makes it inconvenient to have to use my wife's laptop instead of mine, but I'm tired of working on it. Thanks for your time.

You need the SP2 go through program Help Check for updates. That is the only way you can get the correct one to download.

Then you need to follow these Prep Steps to apply it - KB PageThe important part is the 'msconfig' instructions to stop the permission error.

Give that a try and let us know how it works out.

Well, I just spent the last hour going through checking and installing updates. Everything (video card, sound card, directx, windows media player, windows updates, antivirus turned off, running as admin, and turned off all background applications through msconfig) on the list of items to check has been done, and I was able to update the software to sp2, but I still cannot open "capture video."

It's pretty frustrating. I would like to have it working on this computer, but maybe I'll try to steals my wife's Vista laptop and give it a go.

I'll gladly try any other ideas, thanks for the response.

edit: after installing SP2 I went in hoping everything to work and when the "capture video" button didn't work I clicked the "plug and burn" button. It still works, and opened after running a video card diagnostic.

Well that is a most strange symptom as well as frustrating!!!

Your version does have a Repair option that will show up under Add/Remove Programs or if you insert the Install disc…

Keep in mind that Repair will wipe out the SP2, but you are not getting anywhere as of now ;)

You did not mention your OS – while the symptoms don’t indicate it to be the problem, it is always good to know!

Also please confirm that you do not have any other Roxio Product installed… Creator 2010 would wreck your V2D 1.2.198 for example. :o
