Rocky/bad Install?

Benbuck

Question

I just purchased Easy VHS and the install was rocky. It stopped and so I had to retry and now get the following message on start up:"An unknown error has occured. The app has shutdown now. Exception object reference not set to an instance of object." Thats an easy one right? I have Vista and never had any other problems with it.No short cuts installed to the deask top either for the program. I have removed and reinstalled to no success. Any ideas? The program installed easily on my wifes laptop.

Thanks

Jim,

Thanks for you idea. I tried the bat file you suggested and now get:"The certificate file is missing or has been corrupted. Please reinstall it.”

“No permission to launch application". So now I have two error messages. Any other ideas, I bought the software at Frys (mistake) and they won't take returns so I guess I try it on the superold slow laptop?

Thx

Jim,

Is there a difference between simply uninstalling and reinstalling vs "clean install"?

Let me take that one while Jim responds. The answer is Yes. At times, following usual uninstall procedure will leave certain files/folders/reg keys behind. Clean install procedure takes care of that (while not every reg entry) that would affect your next install.

How might I try that? I just realized the old laptop has a DVD playeronly,no burner. So I guess I need to do all I can to try to get this working on the desk top. Thanks

The Clean Install is in the link I gave and I also gave you a Plan B in the same post...

Got It! Jim, with the Revo Uninstaller I ran twice and sure enough the software installed. Now I can see what else I can screw up. Thanks so much for your pro advice and it is really encouraging to see the great and unselfish help and solutions in the forums. Thanks again and I hope the lawn mow was not too hot. I have a half acre of grass staring at me that I am trying to ignore! Only 99 today in central AZ.

Again Thanks
