Windows 7 Installation?

JerryEvans

Question

I've downloaded the latest driver (C2009USBCaptureDriver) and VHS2DVDSP2. The driver will not install on either Windows 7 x32 or Windows 7 x64. Both installations fail with "the update is not applicable to your computer". After I 'OK' this message the installer hangs.

Does anyone know how to get the USB gadget working with W7?

Thx

Indeed, and thanks.

Not at all happy at having to pay 150% of the original hardware cost just to get Windows 7 support. I think I'll be removing Roxio products from my list of recommendations.

W-7 was a choice you and I both made!

As always software made before the launch of a Microsoft Operating System is never guaranteed to work and we know that upfront, don't we?

What downloaded?

Jerry, there is no download that makes the earlier version of Easy VHS to DVD W-7 compatible!

So explain what you've done, in more detail please?

Again what version of the software do you have?

That explains a lot. I've no previous version as the installation CD has long since disappeared into the stack.

No sign of any 'upgrades' available from the Roxio online store.

So the gadget is toast then ... ?

What you talkin' about, Willis??

JerryEvans,

Going over what you've told us, you seem to be saying that you have a USB "gadget" which I'm hoping means that you have a Roxio USB capture device which captures video and audio and allows you to put the captured data onto disk [or disc], and you're trying to make it work. Is that correct?

You're saying:

[1] you downloaded a Creator 2009 driver and tried to run it in Win 7. Is that correct? That isn't going to work, since only C2010 is compatible with Win 7.

[2] you also downloaded SP2 for VHS2DVD [VHS2DVDSP2] but that wouldn't install, either. Correct? It won't install if you have no software loaded, or have the wrong version of the capture software.

Cdanteek has asked you what version of the software you have, in an effort to work out why the SP2 wouldn't install and why the device isn't working, but you're just saying "I've no previous version as the installation CD has long since disappeared into the stack" and you're asking us if the "gadget" is toast ??

What do you want from us?

If you have no software installed then the "gadget" is never going to run, and unless you get/install the necessary software then it _is_ toast.

If you do have software installed then you'll have to be a bit more forthcoming with details of it so we can help get it working for you. If you're not prepared to do that, then the "gadget" is toast.

Your choice.

CD: Not germane, helpful, or relevant. Roxio chose to support old hardware with a new, must-be paid-for, software package. Perhaps good short term for the bottom line but hopeless, hopeless, hopeless, longer term, for customer enthusiasm and support.

Ciao

BTW if anyone else is interested in this microscopic problem, the Roxio VHS->CD USB stick is a based around an Empia 2880 USB interface. Empia (in Taiwan) may just have a driver package on a web site near you.

Well, DG, it's a pretty simple question. Here's a breakdown:

1. Is there a Windows 7 compatible set-up for the Roxio USB composite video capture device available on the Roxio website?

2. If the answer to 1. is no, (as I strongly suspect), does Roxio sell a Windows 7 upgrade?

3. If the answer to 2. is no, (as I strongly suspect), then are there any alternatives to dumping the device in the trash?

Thanks.

You really seem to have a problem answering the simple question asked: what VHS2DVD software package do you have, ie. the version number. Your questions about drivers for the USB device are irrelevant until you tell us what VHS2DVD version you have.

This program is default set to XP compatibility mode on the disk which raises cain with win 7 I had to copy and paste the disk to my hard drive in order to disable compatibility mode all together as I could not while on the disk. Today I Re-installed it from the HD and let it overwrite the original files and it all went in. So far so good also made SURE the anti virus was disabled on install( some need to be put in "Game" mode in order to disable. Also I made the jump from XP to Win 7, 2 months ago and it seems to be good so far.

DG, what a sense of humour you have :)

How can I possibly know when I do not have the original installation CD?

I think the man has mentioned somewhat adequately that he has no original software available and he intends upon acquiring the full software package from Roxio which would be needed to run his device, as I have expected with my situation as well. Any other company would provide a fully functioning software or driver package to accommodate their product in the event that the provided software or driver has become lost, damaged, obsolete or out of date. It's not much to ask or expect, really, that such a minimal level of support would be available. Instead we need to register our names and emails in order to be able to chat with each other about why our crappy software doesn't work, and even the downloads we have access to are only upgrades and are not fully functional. At least from my experienc that is.

:D:lol::D

On my Win7 Shelf is one A/D converter, one camcorder, a scanner, & 3 software packages... That is about $1,500+ turned into junk by Win7 and no support from manufactures.

Same thing happened when I went from DOS to Win3.0 >> to Win95 >> Win9x >> XP >> and the beat goes on

Yes!

The USB Device will probably only work with Roxio Software...

If you Buy Roxio Creator 2010 Pro or Roxio Creator 2010you can use the USB Capture Device with that Software to do as much and more than the a W-7 Version of Easy VHS to DVD Software..

That's the route I would go...

Indeed! Both downloaded from the support page this afternoon. No mention of W7 compatibility. Where did you get your copy?

Not True!

Not true at all, that is a Win7 'misfire' that throws the Installer into 'Vista' compatibility mode and it is not all that common. In at least 20 installs on various Win7 PC's, I have never had it happen...
