Open Project Operation Failed - Xml Load Failure

GMJ

Question

I have Roxio Creator 2010. I've created and burned several DVD slide shows with music, and have had no problem until last evening. I had just finished creating a photo slide show and saved it, and when I went to start burning the project, I got the following message: "Open Project Operation Failed - XML Load Failure 3.34 MB". I have closed down and reopened the Roxio Creator, have shut down and restarted my computer, but still get the same message when I try to open this project. Called technical support this morning, and they told me that I would have to purchase an upgraded Premium version of Creator to burn a DVD. Huh? Since when? In other words, technical support was no help. Any suggestions on how I can find my project that won't open after about 20 hours of work creating it? All ideas appreciated.

Do you still have some previous projects on your system? Do those open?

Yes, I am able to open all the other projects that I have saved and burned. Thanks for asking.

Hopefully you created your slideshow project using Videowave!

Since older project still seem to work correctly then it would seem that there is something in the current project the program does not like.

From your post you seem to indicate that the project loads fine but that the problem occurs when you try the burn. Is that correct?

So sorry if I was misleading. No, the project won't open at all. The project was created over several days. Then when we went to open it so that we could burn it, it would not load. The message we get says "Open Project Operation Failed. XML Load Failure". So it's not even loading. Quite a frustration. What is Videowave?

Videowave is the program in C2010 that should be used to create your video project. You add your photos, videos, audio, transitions, etc in this program and save it as a project file.

You then exit Videowave and launch myDVD and the add the VW project file, create your menu and burn.

Videowave is found on the C2010 Home page under the Edit video-advanced heading. Roxio is their "wisdom" labels it that on the home page but calls it Videowave when the program launches.

Hi, I'm home from work now. Thanks for dialoguing with my wife.

Yes, I'm sure it is in the vidowave format as I believe that is the default for C2010.

Essentially, I've done several slide shows and burned them before with this program. I can still bring up my other slide shows.I have 148 slides on this project plus music plu 20+ hours. I hate to start over. Just as I was about to burn, the program gives me the above error message. As mentioned above, the support staff is no help, they just don't seem to get it.

Before I can try to fix, I trying to understand what XML Load Failure is. Then maybe one can trouble shoot.

Appreciate your help.

Gary

I am still not clear on exactly when you get the message. In an earlier post, it says the project does not even load but now you say you get the error message just as you are about to burn which indicates that the project loaded. Can you clear that up?

I believe "XML Load Failure" means that your project file has somehow been corrupted. (Project files in Roxio suites are saved in the XML format). The fact that you can open old project files seems to indicate that the project files (has the extension dmsd) is bad. I don't think you can repair it.

As a test, create a new small test project in myDVD and save it. Then try to load the test project and see if it loads.

Videowave is not a format but a program within the C2010 suite that is used for creating video projects.

I cannot open the file or project. What I mean is that I would like to burn it if I could open it.

I started to redo the project last night as I need to show it on Friday. I was able to open it tonight as I am currently working on it which appears to be my only alternative.

Thanks for your insight and suggestions

Gary
