Question

Help

I have windows XP and Easy VHS to DVD version 1.1.124. I have followed all instructions for set up and all appears ok. I can get the sound but the picture in the preview pane remains in black & white. However when I try to capture the video the "start capturing" box is blanked out and the default PAL is I not B as apparently needed here and the system won't let me change it. The connection is set up as S-video. I am using DVD-Rs - would using +R make any difference. The capture device comes up correctly as USB2861 Device.

What have I done wrong and how can I sort it?

Thanks

I have tried your suggestions SP2 is loaded; drives checked against windows movie maker - result same as on Roxio - sound with black and white picture.Have also done an update on my drives. Tried to capture the video on roxio and got "no signal".

Not sure what you mean about the S-Video. The connection between Video and USB is scart to S-Video plug on USB.

Have also done several restarts and am no further forward.

Any other suggestions please?

Thanks

It would appear you have a bad Scart cable (getting black and white picture in Windows and Roxio).

Read this http://www.svideo.com/svideoscart.html,

It would be cheaper to go with a composite one like this http://www.amazon.co...41109242&sr=8-1

FYI (from Wikipedia)

Both S-Video and audio (mono or stereo) signals can be transferred through SCART connections as well. However, it was not part of the original SCART standard, and not every SCART-compatible device supports it for this reason. Also, S-Video and RGB are mutually exclusive through SCART, due to the S-Video implementation's using the pins allocated for RGB. Most SCART-equipped televisions and VCRs (and almost all of the older ones) do not actually support S-Video, resulting in a monochrome picture if such a connection is attempted, as only the luminance signal portion is usable. Generally, a monochrome picture in itself can also be a sign of incompatible color encoding: for example, NTSC material viewed through a PAL-only device.

Just Google for "scart black and white" and do some reading.

Most SCART users have trouble like this because their SCART adapter was not really designed to do this…

Here are some that are: AmazonUK

You should be able to stop in any electronics shop or video store and pick one up.

One other test you can try before you go shopping. Use another non-SCART source, like a camcorder or DVD Player. All you want to do is test the ability to capture with a signal of known quality.

Let us know how you make out!

Thanks for the feed back. Anytime a user comes on here and mentions they have a Scart device, 99% of the time THAT is the problem. Again, we appreciate you getting back to us.

If it is coming through in B&W, something is amiss…

You did not say if you had SP2 applied?

Does the S-Video come out of the VCR or off of the SCART connector?

Lastly, to check drivers, try a short test capture in Windows Movie Maker… (it works in XP ;) )

Oh, media will make no difference.
