"roxio Creator Has Encountered A Problem And Needs To Close"

pipertim

Question

I have removed and re-installed Roxio Easy VHS to DVD and it now won't open as it has "encountered a problem". I had problems when I first installed it (maybe a year ago)and tried to capture video and at that time I was advised (on one of these forums) to remove an old Roxio program (Easy CD & DVD Creator) which I did remove. However now the program won't even open at first click. Any advice? I have Windows XP. Other computer info here:

We did an uninstall but not by the directions suggested by you. We did then manage to capture video. The VHS I captured under the DV capture setting brings a nice quality video and audio EXCEPT once or twice the audio slows right down and the voice sounds like Darth Vader! Then after a few seconds it's fine. With the VCD capture setting the overall audio/video is worse but there is no slow down problem with the audeo. I could just keep trying to capture the video repeatedly (I've done it twice with similar results)and take my chance that the audio won't garble but do you have any other suggestions?

No, not really :mellow::(

Follow-up report:

I am trying to copy my VHS tape to a DVD-R. I get as far as the point where I click on "capture now" and it delays bringing up the video on the "capture review" screen. Not sure if that's a problem but my bigger problem is at the end of the capture process I click on "Finish" and the Burn Project Dialog tells me after 97% of the job done that there is an "unrecoverable device error occurred. Error while finalizing disc." Is this common?

Also as a side note , my V2D booklet says to "select USB 2861 Device from the capture device drop-down menu" but the only option is the "Roxio Capture Device" , the capture device that came with the V2D package.

Thanks in advance.

Okay so now I've managed to capture the video and save it to my hard drive. Haven't had a chance to see it fully yet but it looks fine at first sight. Now I tried to put it online via V2D and it said it "published it" but didn't tell me where! How do I know where to find it? I have now gone straight to Youtube and now waiting for it to uploadit there from my hard drive.. It says it will take 182 minutes!

This is a different version number than you posted but the options button is similar.

This screen shows no USB 2861 Device or USB Audio Device available?

Is the USB Device plugged into a USB 2.0 rear port, wires not pulling the device out of the connection?

post-97-031263700 1284478342.jpg

Under Device it does say USB 2861 Device and under Line it says "line" but it is greyed out which seems to me that it isn't activated (?). The USB device is plugged in to the rear port. I'm pretty sure the wires aren't pulling the device out.

Thanks

The reference to the drop down menu (in an older post by me) was when I was trying to transfer VHS to a DVD directly. I've given up on that and since I had success with capturing one VHS tape to my hard drive I am sticking to it but (as we all know) I am now unable to do it. I am now going to try Jim's suggestion of shutting everything off (if that is what he indeed suggested) while trying to capture the video in media import.

Thanks.

I am still wondering about why this program (Easy VHS to DVD Version 1.1.124) won't start up. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks for the feedback.I believeI did a clean uninstall of Easy Cd & DVD Creator 6 . Maybe I can check somehow to see how I uninstalled it? I have the Easy VHS to DVD Version 1.1.124 I believe because it is for Windows XP and Vista only.

This is not a NEW problem is it? It has been almost a year (Nov 2009) since you posted about a similar problem…

Has it been working all of this time?

I don’t have that version handy, but I don’t recall anything directly linked to YouTube??? How about a few more details?

I’m going to be on the road for a few days but hopefully someone will jump in here.

I tried just running V2D and video capture (without anything else running) but still no audio. I can see the video on the video capture preview screen but no audio.

Wow good job on knowing that Jim!

Umm I haven't used it at all actually. I removed the old Roxio program as mentioned and then left it after experiencing some problems (can't remember what now) . Now I have reinstalled V2D again and, as stated, it won't open. Cou;d it be something to do with the install/uninstall process or a conflict with another audio/video capture? (not that I have another).

I have another question.....I have been trying to capture a 2nd video (after the success of the first!) from VHS and have had no luck. My computer freezes when I try to capture the image and besides that there is no audio with the video. I'll try and get more info in terms of the some of the error messages that come up and then post it. BAsically its the "media import" stage which is screwing up. On the Options menu it has an audio line option but provides no choices other than "line". For sound sources I have the Roxio USB and Realtek Sound. I assume I use Roxio USB.

Allrighty then, one more test for you…

Open MS Movie Maker and see if it will capture using the USB 2861! – the XP version was the last that would do it ;)

See how that works.

At this point, you would need to follow the #12 link in cd's signature to do a Clean Install…

Don't get carried away with it, just print it out and follow the instructions.

The Windows Movie Maker did the same thing - froze when I began the capturing steps. Funny thing it caused the rest of my computer to freeze (websites not opening) which also happened with V2D now that I think of it. Perhaps there is something wrong with my Roxio USB device? It did work that once.....:(

What version of "Easy CD & DVD Creator" or did you mean "Easy Media Creator Products" did you uninstall? Did you do a clean uninstall procedure or just add remove programs uninstall?

What version of Easy VHS to DVD do you have? See the pinned post at top of this Forum "What Version Do I Have?"

Sorry Jim - it was my wife that went ahead with the uninstall . She was convinced you had provided the uninstall instructions for the wrong program since it was titled "Creator 2009 and 2010". It was a misunderstanding on our part because our program is actually called "Roxio easy V2D". We aren't experts on this software and all the lingo so please forgive us.

Bad Device??? While not impossible, it is also the most unlikely…

Honestly, you are between a Format and a Hard Place

I really suspect your install is amok. Plug in the USB Device and delete the 2 entries in for it in the Device Manager:

post-39730-097455700 1284632235.jpg

Remove the device and use a printed copy of this Clean Install: XP

Reboot

Then follow the Prep Steps - KB Page

Reboot, then insert the USB Device and cancel anything XP offers to do for you!!!!!!!!!! (it will screw it up and you will be right back where you were)

Install the Software from the disc. remove the USB Device.

Reboot start the program and click on Help – Check for Updates.

Download and apply the SP2 and Reboot.

Now and only Now insert the USB Device and attempt to capture. (try both Roxio & Windows)

Hi ,

the uninstall seems to work. I am able to see the menu!....however....more problems with plug & burn i.e. it doesn't allow me to choose a disk type when I try to copy from VHS tape to CD. But now I realize I reinstalled V2D without the Video Capture Device plugged in. So now I am unistalling V2D again and starting from scratch. Should have followed the booklet instructions. I 'll keep in touch on my progress......

Thanks though I can't pretend to know what you mean. What is the "#12 link in cd's signature"? You included something at the bottom of your e-mail as well which I didn't understand.

I will be away for a few weeks from my V2D so I will check later for your response.

Thanks
