Canon Zr850 Video Capture Roxio 2010 - Blue Screen

Alan in TN

Question

Hello All:

I recently purchased Roxio 2010 (non-professional). I also have Roxio 8 and Roxio 9 on other machines so I'm familar with the product. I loaded this on a HP a6838f 64 machine. The O/S is Vista 64 with all updates loaded. I have loaded all HP updates. I also loaded all Roxio updates.

I connected my Canon ZR850 via firefire. The driver loaded without issue in Vista. I disconnected and then loaded up video capture software. I then reconnected and it displayed the device in the selction bar but the bar was disabled. After about 30 seconds it went to BLUE SCREEN. I've tried serveral different combinations and each time has yielded a blue screen. This information was sent to Roxio.

Since that time I've reviewed about 12 pages of postings here without any specific issues similar to my finding. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great day,

Alan

Your post is confusing. Try this order:

Connect the camcorder via firewire. Also be sure to use an AC adapter for the camcorder!

Turn the camcorder on to the VCR or Playback mode

WAIT for Vista to recognize the camcorder. You should hear a sound and small camcorder icon in the systray for a few seconds.

Now you can launch Roxio Home application and choose Capture Video.

In the Drop down list, you should see something like 'Canon DV Camcorder'

Select that and the camcorder should respond with video in the preview.

Hello:

I connected the Canon using fireware. It recognized in Devices appropriately. I then loaded Roxio 2010. I then launched Capture Video from the menu. It froze and after about 20 seconds it went to blue screen.

If I launch Capture Video it will load fine. If I then connect camera it will be recognized in Devices appropriately. When I then attempt to select the capture device (Canon) the machine goes to blue screen after 20 seconds or so.

By the way I'm using Vista 64 Home Premimum if that makes any difference.

Thanks,

Alan

Hello:

Thanks! I'll visit with HP next weekend when I have some time to see what they say. Afterwards, I'll update everyone.

Have a great day,

Hello All:

After 4 hours over three sessions with HP here are the results. First, HP had me run motherboard and system diagnostics. All tests passed. HP had me uninstall and reinstall Roxio 2010. I then downloaded all updates. Blue Screen continued.

The next HP session had me download a Microsoft Hotfix for firewire devices. I downloaded and then checked for updates. Again blue screen continued when I launched Roxio 2010 video caputre and then connected the canon zr850 via firewire using ac power for the cam.

This morning HP asked me to use Cyberlink DVD Suite Deluxe to see if I could capture video. I launched the basic version provided from HP and was able to capture video. I was also able to edit a smal video clip that I captured. I exited Cyberlink.

I then launched Roxio video wave to see if I could edit the small (10 seconds) clip downloaded with Cyberlink. Since my last posting I also determined that Roxio MyDVD and Video Wave would go to blue screen anytime I wanted to trim a video. I got blue screen when attempting to edit the small clip.

With all of this said, I wanted to provide a few other facts. When I first bought this machince I loaded Roxio 9.0 and got the blue screen when connecting my canon. I then reloaded VISTA Home Premimum 64 from a recovery disk that HP sent me. I then downloaded all updates from Microsoft and HP. Afterwards I loaded Roxio 2010 and all Roxio updates (Jan 2010 and May 2010).

The blue screen continues when 1) connecting a canon zr850 via firewire and 2) attempting to trim video.

Does Roxio have a solution since it's obvious that my machine funcitons with a much inferior product Cyberlink?

Thanks,

Your computer has an Asus motherboard. There have been problems with some of them. Go to HP to see what they can do.
