Question About Burning Video Ts And Thumbnails

Go Short

Question

I'm making a compilation of films for my work and I run upon two problems in the process:

Is it possible to burn multiple Video TS folders and also be able to build a menu for the DVD you're making? And also still have the possibility to select which subtitle you want during the film, because that whole option disappears after burning the disc.

This would make the process of burning DVDs a lot easier, because now I have to convert all the films before burning them and make sure the subtitles get burned in the movie.

A lot of the films I'm using for the compilation start off with black screens, and therefor the thumbnails end up without a picture in them. Is it possible to select which frame you want to see as the thumbnail or alter anything in this?

I hope someone is able to help me out with this. Thanks!

I'll start with the easiest to answer first. To select an image to appear as the menu button click on the thumbnail in the Toast window. A slider appears beneath the button which you can drag to select the frame you want for the button.

There can only be one VIDEO_TS folder in the final DVD. Toast has an option to create a DVD from the content of multiple VIDEO_TS folders but that does not provide a menu. I don't have any experience with subtitles so I don't know what can work. The only thing I know to try is to take an existing VIDEO_TS folder and place it on the desktop or in the Movies folder. Choose DVD with the top button of the Toast Media Browser. Double-click on what appears in the browser window to view the titles that are in the VIDEO_TS folder. Drag the title(s) you want to the main Toast window with DVD video selected as the format. Toast extracts the video from the VIDEO_TS folder and writes it to the Roxio Converted Items folder. What I don't know is if the subtitles are also included.

First of all, thanks for your answer! I'm going to try some stuff with that second answer you gave. About the first one.

I tried this, but it's only possible when the film you added weren't Video_TS folders. Than you can select the video-tab and choose the thumbnail. But is it possible with Video_ts folders?

You need to have DVD video selected as the format in the Toast video window so that Toast is authoring the new VIDEO_TS folder with its own menu. When you see the title in the Toast window you can click on the thumbnail image and drag the scroll bar to select the button image. The official way to add a video from a VIDEO_TS folder to the video window when DVD video is selected as the format is to place the VIDEO_TS folder on the desktop or in the Movies folder and choose DVD with the top button of the Toast Media Browser. Double-click on what appears in the browser window to see the individual titles contained in the VIDEO_TS folder. Drag what you want to the Toast window to extract the video from the VIDEO_TS folder. You also can double click on a title in the browser to access individual chapters within a title.

The unofficial way to do the above is to drag the VIDEO_TS folder directly to the Toast video window with DVD video selected as the format. In this case the video is not extracted from the VIDEO_TS folder which saves time. However, this method can be more prone to errors, although errors are not common.
