The Highlander
2007 Microsoft Office system RTM delayed to the end of year 2006 Microsoft said it was delaying the launch of an updated version of its Office software to the end of this year as it works to improve the package of business applications. "Based on internal testing and beta 2 feedback around product performance, we are revising our development schedule to deliver the 2007 Microsoft Office system by the end of year 2006, with broad general availability in early 2007," the company said in a statement. "Feedback on quality and performance will ultimately determine the exact dates." The Office suite, which includes the Word program for word processing, the Excel spreadsheet and PowerPoint presentation software, is one of the key products for Microsoft along with its Windows operating system. Microsoft earlier this year delayed the release of its upgraded version of Windows, Vista until January, missing the key year-end period for computer sales. full artical here
lynn98109
My software guru was making comments yesterday to the effect Microsoft should finish debugging the current Version of Office. Something about Access and XML. But she sends in the bug report each time the program crashes. She doesn't know what the bug report says because attempts to look at it crash the computer. Lynn That's right. Like with so many other things in life, instead of upgrading a product, they simply come out with a "new and improved" product. I'd rather have a dull rock solid program than a bright and shiny new lemon.
grandpabruce
I have Office XP Professional. I don't know if it was 2002 or 2003 that it came out, but I really don't know what they could do in a new version that would make it worth upgrading. I would be willing to bet that the majority of users of the software suite don't come close to using 10% of the capabilities of the suite. I won't be upgrading anytime soon. vid2man97
I'll side up with you on that bet. I wonder how many home users have it mostly for the sake of "Word". I use it for business and home and I know I won't upgrade. I know how to do what I want to do and don't have time to re-learn how to do any of it (all over again). I still use WordPerfect and Quattro Pro for most of my personal things, because IMHO those two programs are much easier to use.

Nothing there that I see that would make me shell out the money for it. 2003 does more than what I need. If I were a power user, writer, publisher whatever, maybe I would benefit from the new version.
