So What's Fixed

otown

Question

I just got my Creator 2011 email from Roxio. There seems to be new stuff and improvements...and thats great. What I want to know is whats fixed from 2010?

Problems that I've had with Creator 2010 include

1. MyDVD crashing while creating some AVCHD files...Project_BuildToDevice...

2. Jumpy Blu-ray and AVCHD files when certain types of HD video clips are included in the video

3. Not being anle to add audio files to create audio CDs

4. Inconsistant use of ATI GPUs for encoding acceleration

5. Pan/Zoom on MP4 video clips causing Creator to crash

6. Integrating Photoshow with Videostudio

I'm sure others have their own lists.

I bought Creator 2010 Pro. If these problems are fixed I will gladly buy Creator 2011 and the Blu-ray Burning Plugin. I never found any use for the other Pro software so wouldn't buy the Pro version.

So if anyone finds Creator 2010 problems that have been fixed, please post your findings !!!!!!

thx

Hi Mackado, sure, post your problems....I'll try a few things for you. To be honest though, a better way would be to purchase Creator 2011 and try it yourself for 30 days. If you don't like it then return for a full refund.

cheers...

I've had problems with two productions..

One problem is video jaggies/jitter while displaying text effects/transitions..here I go into details..

My link

The other problem is your first listed issue with "Project build to device...writing format" error while burning Mydvd created AVCHD to ISO... here are some details, I'm trying tonight the last suggestion posted by GGrusell and see..

My link

But here are some peculiar Roxio 2010 behaviors I've found that hopefully won't surface in Creator 2011...don't know if they are program bugs or related to my system...

1- While editing long Mpeg clips (1 hr) in Videowave, I experienced sluggish video navigation, but also while editing in "timeline" view if I grabbed the video positioning bar (name?) below the monitoring screen and accidentally dragged it all the way off the working screen (project) to the left/right, the program 'hangs' on Fast Forward/rewind mode until reaching the end/beginning of the project, since the clips are large, (1 HR) it will move painfully slow and there is nothing I could do to stop this behavior until the MyDVD reaches the end of the project...

After taking the time to 'split/export" the clip into smaller portions both behaviors went away.. but lots of time was wasted creating this workaround..

I'm told to 'capture" to AVI file format for big files..but I'm yet to do this...

2- while in Mydvd when picking a default's menu "chapter marker" or 'button' to edit, the 'object' jumps out of place, requiring manual repositioning or 'undo", after experimenting I found that disabling "snap object to grid" under the menu's drop down list takes care of this behavior, not sure why "snap to object" has to be selected by default when opening a new Project.....

3- Videowave's user created "styles effects" can't be edited or deleted thru the program.. apparently there is no fix for this in Roxio 2011 yet.

My link

4- After exporting VW production with created 'chapter' markers to MyDvd, chapters are not automatically created like they used to be in previous version, then after manually running "start at every panel" they are then properly selected according to VW settings, but then it takes two "create" attempts and "save' for the chapters to properly show up on the project's main page to the left under the chosen title..

5- Many times MyDVD just hangs up, especially after closing or during a "Preview DVD" session, and if you forgot to manually "Save" your "changes" they are all lost, I feel a complex time consuming program like this should have a way to setup "automatic save mode" at chosen timed intervals, (if it does I'm yet to find it) to help with this annoying issue, a trick i found to revive a frozen module is to go back to the main Roxio page and re-launch the frozen program, it usually shakes it back to life, but if this 'fix' process is not successful, then all the latest changes are lost........

Once you learn of these glitches one learns to avoid them or workaround them, but it takes lots of time to get there...

By the way, as suggested here and in Roxio's support section, I use MSCONFIG to "disable all" while working on any aspect of the project to avoid any 'loaded' software conflict issues, I used to do this before with older PCs and was hoping that with a new and more powerful PC I wouldn't have to go through this process any longer, But........

I've had a few more glitches.. but I lost track and can't even remember....

Maybe in your "travels" across Roxio 2011 :D if you can tell me if any of these behaviorsl are still present in 2011, then I'll decide if upgrading yet again is worth it for me...

That IS good news!!!

Do you think you will run some of your older 2010 projects through 2011 for updating? :glare:

I tried a few and found that I had to re-select the menu styles in MyDVD then they were usable! – of course I had to point them to the current location for the files… ;)

I tried a few 2010 projects in 2011 and they seem to work fine. I also ran some tests and they worked fine. For my previous projects I had to pre-convert the video clips and then use them in Videowave so I don't really have plans to redo old projects due to the work involved.

For MyDVD, I did find that I had to re-select/redo the menus but again this isn't a problem for me as I'm not recreating old projects.

1. This happened to selected few customers and should be fixed.

2. Needs more detail. What certain type of HD video clips would cause the issue?

3. Can't duplicate. Is it only certain type of audio files?

4. ATI Stream support is improved.

5. Can't duplicate.

6. Not sure what Videostudio is. It's not part of Creator.

You are free to purchase Creator 2011 directly from us then return it within 30 days of purchase if it doesn't work as you expected.

Thanks

Ivan

Hi Mackado, here's a few things for you:

...video jaggies/jitter while displaying text effects/transitions.....I had this on my old slow computer with Creator 2010 but with the new computer (quite similar to yours except I run Vista 64 bit) this is not an issue in 2010 or 2011

...Project build to device...writing format....as I mentioned before, this problem has gone with 2011

...editing long Mpeg clips....I don't normally edit long clips but did try it in 2011. I found that if I try to FF and move the cursor off the window theer is problems. I then zoomed out in timeline so that the whole clip was visible, didn't have to move the cursor off the window and it worked fine.

...while in Mydvd when picking a default's menu "chapter marker" or 'button' to edit...can't make this happen

...Many times MyDVD just hangs....I've yet to make it hang.

When I run Creator 2011 I don't disble any processes.....it seems to be quite stable.

This is all I've had time to look at...hope this helps.

I bought Creator 2011 Pro and am happy with the results of my tests....heres some brief comments

1. MyDVD crashing while creating some AVCHD files...Project_BuildToDevice...

...doesn't seem to be a problem any more....Creator 2011 Pro installed cleanly and has yet to crash

2. Jumpy Blu-ray and AVCHD files when certain types of HD video clips are included in the video

....doesn't seem to be a problem any more....Videowave accepts images and H.264 (1080) clips, MyDVD generates AVCHD and Blu-ray directories correctly, directly from the Videowave DMSM file...no requirement intermediate MPG files...therefore great looking 1080 output

3. Not being able to add audio files to create audio CDs

....doesn't seem to be a problem any more....this works now....I'm able to add MP3 files to create audio CDs

4. Inconsistant use of ATI GPUs for encoding acceleration

....doesn't seem to be a problem any more....seems to use both GPU and CPU for encoding 1080 AVCHD and Blu-ray files. Really fast encoding (I have a one year old computer with an I7 CPU, 8 megs and ATI video card)

5. Pan/Zoom on MP4 video clips causing Creator to crash

....doesn't seem to be a problem any more....pan/zoom works on my video clips

6. Integrating Photoshow with Videostudio

....doesn't seem to be a problem any more....within Videowave you can choose new Cinemagic Production and New Slideshow to help generate basic but useable Videowave productions

I also used to have a problem in not knowing the resulting resolution of MyDVD AVCHD and Blu-ray files until after they were rendered ...the resolution of these files became the same resolution as the video clips lowest resolution in the Videowave production. MyDVD still works the same way but tells you in advance what the final resolution will be.

I recommend buying Creator 2011 if you bought Creator 2010 and had these problems. However (on the Video and Photo side), other than the new 3D, streaming and stablization capabilites there seems to be very little else thats new over Creator 2010. I don't use Creator for data-related functions such as backup so didn't look at these functions.

OTown, thanks very much for taking the time to post this detailed info here, I've been trying to resolve problems with your #1 issue for a while...

I only picked up Roxio 2010 in January with this new computer and used mainly the 'CD" side of it until now, but my first two DVD productions have been nothing but headaches for like 3 weeks now..and I'm yet to resolve the issues..

I have a long list of other "issues" with Roxio 2010 glitches and freeze ups etc, that I came across during my two productions, I'll post some here and see if you came across any and if Roxio 11 fixed the problems..

And I must say, it's kind of discouraging to participate here in this board ( and therefore owning any Roxio product)when I read some of the nasty remarks directed at some of the posters here that have legitimate gripes with the software...

Since there was a complete lack of interest in my question here, I'll assume there isn't such a thing as a Change Log for 2011 so we can see what's been fixed and improved. All the blurb on the web site is far to "high level" I'd like to know the details of what's changed before I part with hard earned lolly!!!!

Oh well, when I return from vacation I'll have a look at other products that do show me what's changed (deleted since it adds nothing to the topic).

There is no change log that I know of especially since Creator 2011 is not an UPDATE from Creator 2010. That is where the change log would be. FYI, there is a change log for Service Packs for Creator 2009 and others here.

If you are looking at what is different, then you should go here (why upgrade).

What application has a BUG that would need to be fixed; not an error that only you have.

Good luck with that other application.

Thanks Otown for taking the time to test my list of Creator 2010 glitches with Creator 2011, I'll keep an eye for Creator 2011 deals, the current asking price of 59.99 for Creator 2010 users is a bit steep for me, especially when I don't need right now any of the new features offered....

I feel some of the more serious if not all of these glitches/bugs should be fixed via a "Update" for Creator 2010 users, I just only began using this version like three months ago, and I don't see why I need to keep upgrading just to get complete functionality of the features I paid for that are supposed to be working bug-free in the first place....

Here is another annoying Creator 2010 bug I didn't list before....

Using MyDvd to create a new AVCHD project, and choosing the wide-screen Hi-DEF 'Menu style' "HD Jungle"..

Using the same font-style but changing the default size to a different value to accommodate a longer title in one line, everything looks fine, even while testing with DVD preview the Menu's title location and font-size plays fine...but during the project burning process the font size reverts back to the original template's larger default value, and the New title is now divided into two lines, and only the first line shows up in the title area...( this behavior didn't happen with any other Menu I used/tested so far)

This bug cause me to burn the same project three times (three hours of encoding each) before I realized what was happening, because when it showed up in my first ISO I thought it was my mistake and re-did the same thing as before for the second burn, finally for the final 'Burn' I just shortened my title and kept the default font-size to avoid the bug.

There is nothing to be fixed if you are the only one experiencing the issues.

1) I don't have that problem and I follow the instructions in that part of the forum.

2) That sounds like a computer problem. I had some of that with Vista 64 bit but I've upgraded to W7 and see none of that.

3) I'm not sure what you mean by that - what kind of audio file, where were they from and how are you trying to do that.

4) Don't know just because you did not see the Stream or Cuda log didn't mean that the higher speed was not used.

5) Again, that sound like a computer problem; I did not have that problem with Vista 64.

6) I'm not sure what you mean by that integration? Videostudio? You can make/download A PhotoShow, make a video file and add it to Video Wave to make a DVD. I've done that lots of times.

Bottom line; I don't think you can upgrade the software from Creator 2010 to 2011 and fix the problems you listed. Save you money for W7. If you have it, do a reinstall. You had three versions of Roxio software on your computer. They would not interfere with each other but I would image that there would be some issues.

All the problems I listed have been discussed at length in this forum...some are well documented and have affected a lot of users. I suggest you do some reading before you dismiss all my concerns.

Not impressed!!!

A fix is usually associated with a BUG which is something wrong with the software that affects everyone. I was just pointing out that that wasn't the case. I did not dismiss your concerns. Which one of the above issues did you not get feedback on? If you were given a work around or a reason the program did not work, then yuo could have considered that there was a pseudo-fix. PICNIC I see that you started about 6 or so threads but have lots of posts.

I assume that you do not intend to upgrade to Creator 2011 so we will not see you on this section of the forum. I really don't want to get into a p match with you. Good life.

Thats not the case. As I said above I do want to upgrade to 2011 and I hope my concerns/problems are addressed with 2011. As people start to use 2011 I am hoping for feedback on these concerns, and the concerns others have.

Overall I like the product, have been using it since 2007, and want to continue to use it. This also means I'll be present on this board for a quite a while.

That is funny, I have a Folder on my HDD named "otown test", from Feb 2010.

Without digging it all out, as I recall nothing you experienced could be duplicated…

This is not to say it didn't happen to you but like Steve said, if others cannot duplicate it, it won't be recognized as a bug.

In any event, no crashes and smooth sailing in 2011. Of course I have not been into every corner of it yet. ;)

There's a 30 day money back policy with the product so for trying out Creator 2011 you are only out your time if you don't keep it.

If you run into problems POST and dont be shy about the details!!!

Most of us get email notices whenever someone posts, so it should not languish for days

Thanks Jim, my new camera shoots 1920x1080 video clips so if I convert the clips from H264 MPEG4 to MPEG2 and keep the same resolution, the quality doesn't suffer too much and Creator 2010 seems to work with them fine...no jerky output. When I try 2011 I'll see how it works with the raw files.

FYI, over the summer I tried Corel Videostudio but didn't like it for a number of reasons so I hopr Creator 2011 works for me.
