Web Capture

widgeonjim

Question

I have written to tech support with no solution. I have tried to capture a one hour web video 5 times. It captures the first 3-12 minutes then nothing. The item continues playing but only one frame appears in Roxio web capture. I have been able to capture all 60 minutes of audio in the audio utility but no luck in video. Any suggestions are appreciated.

TIA, jim

I would say most likely it's the internet connection. I had to try it 4 times before I got the entire thing. When you select a web site, the elements on the page may take different routes. If net traffic is congested, the system tries to route around trouble areas. I don't think it has anything to do with your computer or the C2010 installation.

I couldn't get any web video to load into the "web video copy and convert" window.

I kept getting a blank "launch your browser to start viewing and downloading web video."

I confirmed all my operating system requirements were up to snuff, but still no web videos were loading.

Finally tried to use my firefox browser http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

Instant success with the Firefox browser. I'm now a web video capturing lunatic.

This posting was basically a "this worked for me so it might work for you" public service announcement.

Have you applied,

Update Creator 2010 – Web Video Capture Patch?

It will update C2010 to Sp 2.1....

Here>>>> http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/c2010/software_updates.html

Now try IE again....

Let it go until the loading disappears. Have you waited that long?

GG,

The reason I say I don't think it is an internet problem is the video plays in my browser without interruption. I have watched and listened to it. It is consistent, continuous and constant. It plays to the very end. Creator does nothing except show the icon saying "loading." When the video stops playing in my browser, I go through the DVD creation process doing a PREVIEW first and discover that only 3-12 minutes has been captured. I really do understand how the internet works. I've been using it since before Tim Berners-Lee invented the WEB. (or was that Al Gore that invented it?)

CDAN mentioned a REPAIR OPTION. What is this please? I'd be happy to try. Tech Support has not recommended anything like that.

Thanks, but I'm sure it's not the internet connection.
I don't think that yo understand how the internet works. When you type in a URL, it means nothing to the internet. First, it has to go to a domain lookup service to find the real IP address. Then the info gets pasted around until it reaches that server. The server has to find the page(s) that you requested and send them back. The return trip to your computer can go through dozens if not more servers.

There is probably nothing wrong with your installation or the internet at your end. When I say there is an internet problem, I'm saying something beyond your control. If you really want to know what I'm talking about, run an internet trace app. It will show you exactly how many servers it has to go through. Each time you try the same site, the route can be different.

Thanks, but I'm sure it's not the internet connection. I have several computers, all of which work fine on the internet. I run a business over the internet so my connection is important to me and an alarm sounds if the internet is ever the problem. When Creator is doing this capture, the video runs perfectly and displays in the browser all the way to completion. It has to be in my Creator installation. Since you've proven that Creator CAN work correctly with that particular video, I'll reinstall it and start from scratch. Looking at your system configuration made me think about my Windows OS. Does Creator have problems with Windows XP? Maybe I need to upgrade my OS.

thanks again.

DG,

thanks for your reply and the time you took to confirm that I have a problem. I wish I knew what it was. Tech support hasnot been able to pin point the issue. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. At least I now know that Creator will do it for someone else.

Is there anything else you know about either my installation or my computer configuration that may be the problem? I have a Sony 2.8GHz system with 2 GB memory, but it does seem to run Creator very slow. When I click anything, it is a long time loading.

much appreciated.

jim

I tried the Beck site video and got 31 min before the stream was interrupted some how. Capturing from web, you are at the mercy of it, too. Internet traffic can interrupt the stream and that may be causing your problem.

---

My third attempt and I think the entire video was captured. 67min 51sec.

I had upgraded to SP2 first some time ago, and then to the Video Patch recently. Nothing works.

I understand that a video can be locked but why would it permit between 3-12 minutes of copying and then nothing? It seems that a copy protection would either prevent or not prevent, not allow varying lengths of copy.

I have not been successful copying ANY web videos. This one is the one that copied 3-12 minutes over 6 attempts.

If you want to try another that would not copy at all, none of the videos on this page worked:

I appreciate any help you provide.

thanks.

jim

Did you install SP2 and the Video Web update? Here. do SP@ first then the web update.

Someone else reported something similar, but we couldn't duplicate it. Post a link to the video if it's suitable to do so and we'll see if it does the same.
