Questions About Roxio Creator Pro 2011

GAP

Question

I have read the online product descriptions and comparisons, but I still have some questions. My video camera records to a mini DVD disk and creates a disk that plays in a DVD player, be it on your computer or something connected to a television. This is a pain when I want a video I can use on a website. Will Creator let me open and edit video directly from the DVD, or must it be ripped first, and can Creator do that? I understand the software converts from one type file to others. Can I get from DVD to Flash video using only Creator? (I don't mean sending it to YouTube for conversion. I want to make Flash video myself to use on my own website.) If so, how many steps or conversions are involved? Can it go directly from one to the other? It looks like royalty free music files are included to use with my video or slideshows. Is that correct? Finding audio tracks to use without infringing on someone's copyright is always an issue when the video will be shown in public. Thanks for your help.

Sorry if I jumped into the wrong place, but I'm a bit frustrated. I have been looking for a program that will allow me to burn my slide show (JPG images) to a DVD, provide music and fade capabilities, and play on any DVD player hooked to a TV. I am now using Photo Story 3 but that one limits you to 300 images per disc. What a waste of time and material.

A friend introduced me to Roxio Easy Media Creator 10. She said it did everything I want and her slide shows work on any DVD player...any TV. My problem is that EMC 10 seems to be old and forgotten. Now Creator 2011 is the thing...and just try to find out if it will do what I want. Everyone is into video, U-Tube, etc. and that is all I read about.

Will Creator 2011 do what I want? If so, can I put more than one slide show on a disc?

Many thanks to anyone that can help. The last thing I want to do is purchase the wrong program...again.

Yes, yes.

Create each of your slide shows in the Video Wave application. Add music, effects, transitions, etc. Save it. Do the same for the rest of your slide shows remembering that you can get only one hour of best quality video on a single layer DVD. A little less than 2 hours at much reduced qualities.

One you have all your slide shows saved, open Create DVD. Select the type of disc you want to make and your menu. Add the saved slide shows. Optional but recommended - encode (render) your project to an ISO file and then copy the ISO to a disc. You can go directly from the finished DVD project to a disc but if you have a glitch in the slide show, the navigation or the burning, you would have to locate the glitch and try burning again. Unless you use RW discs, you may waste a couple.

Take a look at this post and at karri's videos. More help here.. Note the basic process is the same, names of the application may have changed from the earlier tutorials.

The maual is here.

I appreciate your quick and clear response. Creator 2011 it is. I like the idea of the 1-hour goal for best quality. That is a better target than 300 photos.

Thank you for your helpful attachments. I'll install the program and see how it goes.

Sorry, FLV is not a supported file format.

Yes, SmartSound is included which creates music on the fly to fit the project length. I believe it is royalty free.

As for flv; try this free converter "Any Video Converter" (cnet) or directly from source with more infromation.

It is interesting that Roxio's Copy and Convert Video application will accept flv but will not convert to it.

Rip is perhaps the wrong word here. You can simply copy the files from the DVD to your computer and then use them in Creator 2010. The discs might have to finalized first depending on your camcorder. Read your manual on that. For best results, your should rip (copy) from the DVD and do your editing in Video Wave (Edit Video -Advanced). From there you can output to a format of your choice (other than flv) in standard definition or high definition. You can use the suggested application to convert to flv.

Also remember if the video is relatively short, wmv is a viable alternative.

Althought perhaps not as useful now than a little later, you can convert your video to 3D and upload that to your web site. Viewers will need cyan/red glasses to watch. This is a std def wmv (low quality) file on my web site as an example. The original was made with PhotoShow (lite {limited} version included in Creator 2011} uploaded to that site, downloaded as mpg4, converted to wmv 3D then uploaded to my site.
