Preview Screen Blank - Videowave 8

aeleigh

Question

I just downloaded Creater 8 Suite and have not been able to successfully use Videowave. I have imported photos and music, but the preview screen remains blank. When I hit play, the music plays but the photos still don't show up. I have read other posts about this problem suggesting a new graphics card may be in order. I have no idea what kind of graphics card I have, just that it was good enough for 7.5 and I never had any issues at all before.

In addition to the blank preview screen, right after I import the photos I get a message stating "There are 0 panels in your production." Then, when I press play, a text box like an error message pops up with two buttons at the bottom (Details & OK) but the text box is completely blank! I also have had trouble with the preview screen in terms of switching back and forth between windows. When I minimize Videowave, view another window, and then go back, the contents of the other window show up in the preview part like it doesn't refresh completely.

Please help! If this is due to my system, I will try to upgrade, but I believe I meet the minimum requirements and have had no other problems previously. I want to eliminate any other possibilities before buying new hardware.

Many thanks in advance.

It does sound like an issue with your video function but there are some things to try. Go to your desk top screen and right click on my computer. Select properties and then the Hardware tab. Select Hardware Devices. Look under Display Adapters. Post what you have there. Also post your computer specs. It is convenient to do so by going to My Controls (at the top of this page) and typing the information into your signature. It will show up automatically in all your posts. There are several ways of finding out more about your computer. Download "Belarc Adviser" and run it. It will give you more than what you wanted to know about your computer.

The first thing you want to do is go to your computer manufacturer's web site and see if there are any updated drivers for your computer. Follow the instructions to install the latest drivers. Also make sure that you have the latest version of DirectX 9©.

After doing that, open VideoWave and select tools/options and run the video test. After you have done that, post where the "dot" is. It will be near hardware or software.

EMC V 8 does require more from your graphic device (card or chips) since V 8 hands off much of the video processing to the device. If you decide not to spend the money to upgrade (if your computer is rather old or for other reasons), you can re-install V 7 over V 8. Many people like the video processing in V7 better than that in V 8. Unfortunately, you won't be able to use all the features of V8 such as the 3D transitions.

BTW if you get the issue resolved inexpensively and quickly, contact Roxio to see if you can "exchange" the Suite for the deluxe version. You will be much happier for hopefully very little additional $.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. This is what I have under Display Adapters: VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP. I updated the drivers but it didn't help. I also went to the HP website for driver updates, but there were none listed for my model. I did update DirectX. After running the video test in Videowave, the dot is near software. I also listed my specs below (how does it look?)

So far, none of this has seemed to help. After viewing this detail, do you think I need to uprade the graphics card?

The video chipsets that are built onto motherboards do not fully support DirectX and I haven't seen one yet that will default to hardware rendering.

Looking at HP's website, there is a SR1030NX which has One AGP 8x/4x available. You might consider buying a better AGP video card. YOu don't need to spend alot. There are plenty in the $50-75 range that will work well with EMC8.
