Popcorn 4 Crashing

tmac101

Question

I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.8. I upgraded Popcorn 1 to Popcorn 4. Burned one dvd successfully then got a pop up saying I needed to up date Popcorn 4 to 4.0.2 which I did. Now it is crashing upon compressing video to burn to dvd. I tried to go back to 4.0.1 but it is still crashing. Tried to find something in the forum but was unsuccessful. Ran disc utility; all seems fine. Any ideas?

Hi everyone. For years I was using popcorn 3 to burn my TS folders without issue. About 1 month ago, I cant burn a cd anymore. Apple says it is a software problem, Roxio says it is a hardware problem. The DVD drive was changed. I upgraded to popcorn 4.02. The program starts up. I can change a TS folder to ipod movie without a problem. When I try to burn the TS folder to dvd. The program crashes soon after I press the start button. I tried to make a disk image (as per digital guru's suggestion). See roxio community comments "Pls Help: Popcorn 3 Crashes When Burning Part Of Video_ts Folder With Compression". Did not work and still crashes. The only thing I have changed on the computer is the mac updates. I am running version 10.5.8. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Try this: Choose Video Files as the format in the Convert window. Select DVD with the top button of the Popcorn Media browser. If your VIDEO_TS folder is on the desktop or in the Movies folder you should see something listed in the browser window. Select that and add it to the main Popcorn window. You'll get a new window that lets you select what you want from the VIDEO_TS. After making those selections click okay for them to appear in the main Popcorn window where you now can attempt the conversion.

Not sure what is causing the problem. Sometimes it can be a flaw in the VIDEO_TS folder itself and the problem doesn't happen with a different one. You can try trashing the Popcorn plist file in your User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunching Popcorn to see if that fixes the issue.

I read your previous post again. You should be able to make copies from your VIDEO_TS folders as long as you do not deselect any of the source content. There seems to be a bug in the current version that causes the crash if you deselect anything. Alternatively you can use the Media Browser to add specific videos from the VIDEO_TS to the Popcorn Copy window with DVD Video selected as the format. This should work for you.

If you have an earlier version of Popcorn 4 you also might give it a try to see if this fixes the issue.

It may be there is a hardware problem with your drive.
