Can't burn XviD to DVD

Yirman

Question

I need some help please....I want to burn downloaded internet movies to DVD so they can be viewed on a standard DVD player.

I just bought "Easy CD & DVD Burning" Home edition from PC World this afternoon and tried to burn a couple of DVDs from movies I downloaded from the internet. I tried using MyDVD Express but each .avi file I tried to add came back with the error message "The file you are trying to use cannot be edited, and has not been added".

I then tried Creator Classic from the Data and Backup menu and added the movie to the DVD. It did burn the nmovie to the DVD and I could play it back on my PC but it would not play on my DVD player - can't play disc.

I then tried dragging a movie file to the DVD drive icon displayed on the desktop which also allowed the burn of the movie to the DVD. Again it would play on the PC but not on my DVD player.

This was the sole reason for my purchase and I'm a wee bit frustrated that it's not as "Easy" as the name implies.

Help About information follows...

Easy CD and DVD Burning Home

Version: 10.3.104

Build: 101B04A, ECD

I'd be grateful if someone could advise me what I need to do to get this function to work.

Regards

Video is not Easy and nothing is ever going to make easy…

The problems you are having are because of your Source files. We need to know a lot more about them and I can tell you right now, it may not even be possible to do that with this program. But it depends on the files…

Can you give me a link to one or two of them so I can try it and see what happens?

If not, can you tell us what the Extension of the file is?

Then using MyDVD Express – Add a File and right click on one of the files you are having trouble with. Select Properties:

From the Details tab, tell us what the Video & Audio Stream readings are:

Then we will know where we stand.

His downloaded movie probably contains AC3 Audio..

As we know "Easy CD and DVD Burning (in Red Box): Vista & Windows 7 Compatible" has that capability cut out of it's innards...

Do a Google for GSpot, a free download codec utility, load in your downloaded movie and tell us what it shows for Audio?

Hi Jim and cdanteek, thank you for your responses and advice.

I have actually found a way round the problem by converting the input .avi file to a .wmv file. The converted .wmv file is then burned to disc without a problem. However, the conversion takes quite a while to do and if there was a way of burning the .avi file to disc I would welcome suggestions.

I used the GSpot program on a couple of the files I was having problems with and attached them to this posting - can you tell me how I place the image IN the posting please..?

Edit removed ~ probably not legal :( jeh

I've also attached images of these same files showing their properties as you suggested Jim.

Edit: also removed, same reason :( jeh

I clicked on "Add to Post" so maybe the images will be displayed in the post - fingers crossed.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Kind regards

Yirman: Looks like you have a solution and considering the software your using, that is probably about as good as it is going to get

Burning, even viewing Commercial Movies is a legal minefield! :o

There are only a very select few Legal ways to do it! But other ways tend to draw the attention of the FBI

But basicly unless you are downloading directly from the Owner (Studio) or some special application software authorized by the Owner, it is simply not legal!
