Many Features Not Operational - Roxio Creator 2010

Danny0mc

Question

I have been using Roxio Creator 2010 for a year or so, primarily to rip CD's. I attempted to start the sound editor, and find that when I click on this or MANY other "advanced" functions, simply nothing happens. The only icons or commands which seem to actually cause anything to happen are the CD Rip/Burn/Copy functions. The other icons generate a rotating arc which persists for 5 seconds, and then nothing happens. The commands on the screens (e.g., Music | Audio) which are not operational all have a little arc with an arrowhead next to them, as if that means something, but I cannot find any information on any meaning to this tagging.

I don't have my box anymore, but did I accidentally buy a "starter kit"? I could find nothing in any of the documentation or the website which discusses a limited-feature version of Roxio Creator 2010, nor how to upgrade to a full-feature version. And, all my documentation refers to all the features. I re-installed it to see if I missed something in a custom install, but there were no such options - it just behaved as if it were installing the whole thing.

"About" gives me Version 1.2.193, 5.0.0.0 for Roxio Creator 2010, as well as version numbers for a large number of plug-ins, but no clues.

Any ideas out there?

Try opening those applications via WindowsStart - All Programs, find Roxio 2010 slide over to applications and try opening a couple of them from there. Do they open? This just checks to see if the Home application is the culprit.

Turn off your anti-virus (not just pause) and do a repair.First do this. You can do it from Windows Programs and Properties or just as easily from the disc. There is a repair option on the disc.

If all else fails, then do this:

1) Create a backup or create a restore point.

2) Download the free Revo Uninstaller (link).Open it and uninstall everything that you see that is Roxio or Sonic. Use the MODERATE MODE.

3)Prepare your computerlike this. Make sure you do everything and not skip a step.

4) (OPTIONAL) Create a new administrator account and change to that account.

5) Reinstall Creator 2011 from the disc. MAKE SURE YOUR ANTI-VIRUS IS OFF AND NOT JUST PAUSED.

Disclaimer: The above is from a user who has had good luck with the Uninstaller application. Roxio cannot recommend a third party program because if you use it incorrectly and you have a hiccup, Roxio might have to take the blame for that 3rd party application.

Thanks so much for your advice. I successfully installed Roxio Creator 10 on my other PC running XP - and all functions worked properly.

On my Vista laptop, launching the individual apps from the start menu generated the same "non-result", so I'll give the more extensive repairs you suggested a try when I have a few hours to play with it.
