Videowave's Text Effect-Apply Style - Editing?

mackado

Question

In Videowave while adding/editing Text Effects you can create a style with desired font, colors, size, effect etc, and then 'name' and 'save' this style for consistent use across all panels/videos or for later use in a different project.

Your personal Style becomes part of the "Style" drop-down list with the rest of the program's supplied styles..

How do I delete or edit a style I created that I'm not using any longer?

VW even allows you to save a different style with the same name, ( I did this while experimenting thinking the program would over-write the old one) making it very confusing...

Of course, as a workaround I saved the final "Style" I'm using with a unique name, but now the drop down list is full of experimental styles I don't need..

Unless you're knowledgeable of xml (I'm not), why don't just rename or delete the usertextstyle.xml file since you mentioned the user styles you created anyway are mostly experimental. A new xml file will get created as you create new user text styles.

Yes, good idea, I'll do that, then I can go back to my completed VW production with the user-defined text/Style I used, go to edit-text effect and re-save the 'style' again for future use.

But still next time if and when new "experiments" are created in search of a new user-defined style I'll have to go through the whole process again...

A user-defined "Style" in VW could potentially contain a combination of a dozen changes in it's final form, so while experimenting with all the available settings saving the last (or several) experimental definition created for comparison/testing is a logical step for me, then I could keep building on the desired style by "editing" and then deleting the useless ones..

Since there is no "edit" (or Delete)capability, creating a user-define style leaves behind a trail of useless experiments that pollutes the "apply styles" drop down list...

I wonder if Roxio 11 fixed this issue...

This thread made me curious and I researched to find freeware xml editor. I found a Microsoft freeware xml editor (xml Notepad 2007) but it works only for XP and Vista. Using that editor I was able to remove unwanted user text style(s) by simply right-clicking on the node of the particular user text style I want to remove. A context-sensitive menu appears that includes the Delete option. Choosing that option gets rid of the particular style. Afterwards, save the edited xml file. That should do it.

If your OS has a built-in xml editor (or look for a freeware one that works in your OS), it is easy to remove the unwanted style(s). Maybe the steps are similar to what I described above.

I should have done a search..

Thanks, a very clumsy way to do this..

Under Win7 the file is located here

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Roxio\EMC12\VideoUI\UserTextStyles\usertextstyle.xml

Since it is an xml file it opens with IE explorer or text editor, but I have no idea what to delete exactly..
