Need To Format Re-Writable Disk For Drag And Drop In Windows Explorer

motmot

Question

I need to:

Format a re-writable Disk, so that I can use Windows Explorer to drop and drag and update existing files. This is something I used to be able to do with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.

For some reason, Roxio Easy CD Creator 5, would no longer work.

I talked to pre-sales and they told me that I would be able to do this if I Purchased Roxio Creator 2010.

I further explained to them that the reason I needed to do this is because the files I need to update are on a separate computer system whose hard drive is not large enough to handle the new Roxio Creator 2010 Program.

Please provide instructions to help me acomplish my task.

Thank you in advance.

Tom

I used that drag and drop feature in the past, but I remember I had to disable it because it was conflicting with something else in my system...was it win98?, I don't even recall..

But with Creator 2010 using WIN7 this is the way it works in my system .......

Once you insert recordable media in your PCs burner a Roxio icon automatically appears on your desktop, (I'm not at my main PC so I can't check what Roxio calls this feature)this Disc icon is linked directly to your Burner/Drive/media, you can then drag and drop any files to it from Explorer or desktop, the files stay there until you hit the burn button, at which point all files are copy/transferred to the blank disk.

In the past I used a DVD-RAM this way to backup financial stuff from a backup file located in my desktop,I now use a CD-RW.

Usually one needs to right click the drive containing the blank media and then just "Format" , this should work with your media..

Maybe instead you should look into using an external usb thumb-drive or external HDD to move the large files from the old PC to the new one?.. And then use Roxio creator 2010 to burn data to a DVD or CD.

Tom, The system you describe was called 'Direct CD' when it was in ECDC 5. It is no longer provided in the current Sonic/Roxio software suites, probably because it is the default built-in writing system in Windows 7.

I agree with Mackado that you'd be much better off using a USB thumbdrive/pendrive to carry out this function. It's a lot easier, simpler, quicker and more reliable, and the pendrive can be read by any PC with a working USB port without having to use special software.
