Video Wave freeze up

MemeLuke

Question

I, too, am having a problem with Roxio Creator 10, specifically VideoWave freezing up. I have used Roxio for years and made dozens of video's with no problems. This year I purchased a new computer and Roxio Creator 10 compatable with Win7. I can load pictures into VW even though it takes 2-3 minutes to load them.I have 178 pictures now but in the past have used up to 300. After loading pictures I save my file as .dmsm. It takes 4-5 minutes to save the file to my video's folder on my harddrive. Then the program is frozen completely. I have to do a PC shutdown to get out of it. I have contacted Roxio support and I have done a clean uninstall and reinstall as they directed. I have updated everything that they have told me to on my PC. I had DirectX 11 but they told me to install the latest one and I installed DirectX SDK (June 2010). They ask me to send them my system information and here is what I sent to them.

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100618-1621)

Language: English (Regional Setting: English)

System Manufacturer: Compaq-Presario

System Model: AY030AA-ABA CQ5320F

BIOS: BIOS Date: 01/07/10 11:37:11 Ver: 5.17

Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 240 Processor (2 CPUs), ~2.8GHz

Memory: 3072MB RAM

Available OS Memory: 2816MB RAM

Page File: 1750MB used, 3878MB available

Windows Dir: C:\Windows

DirectX Version: DirectX 11 (just updated to DirectX SDK);

DX Setup Parameters: Not found

User DPI Setting: 120 DPI (125 percent)

System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)

DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled

DxDiag Version: 6.01.7600.16385 32bit Unicode

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM); Chip type: GeForce 6150SE nForce 430;

Drive: C: Free Space: 390.4 GB Total Space: 466.7 GB

I need to know what the problem is. If it is Roxio Creator 10, should I get Roxio Creator 11? Should I forget Roxio after all these years and find another Program that I can make video's to DVD from pictures? Thanks.

I'm now leaning toward a video chip issue. Did you update the drivers for that video chip? I see that there are no updates. Perhaps your's got corrupted; try reinstalling it.

I also see a fix for the computer acting strangely when USB device is connected. You might want to consider that. Try removing all your USB devices and then see if the computer responds quicker.

I did update the drivers for the video chip before. But I redid it. Also disconnected all the USB devices and reconnected them. They are for my mouse, keyboard, etc. Maybe what you saw was something that happened when I downloaded pictures from my SD card device.

Anyway, the program is working now. When I save my production it takes about 3 minutes before the program will do anything. Like it's frozen for those 3 minutes. Hopefully this will do it. I haven't edited or added everything that I want to yet so it will be a waiting game. Thanks for your help and if you have any other advice I'm open to it.

Check to make sure that you have DirectX 9c on your computer. DirectX 11 is not an update.

Where do you have all those pictures? On an internal or external drive? How many layers deep (folders and subfolders) are the actual images?

I foyu have the free space, move the images, videos, music, etc. to a folder on your computer' somewhere convienent and not too many folder deep. Perhaps a folder on your desktop screen.

I know nothing about DirectX. How can I tell if I have it on my computer? I've tried to look online for it in the event I need to download it and there are so many it's confusing, I don't want to do the wrong thing.

My Pictures are located in a folder in the Video Folder on my internal hard drive, so I guess it would be two layers? I can use desktop once I figure out the DirectX thing.

When Roxio told me to download the latest DirectX, the newest one I could find (I thought) was DirectX SDK. Should I uninstall that one or is it good for what I am doing? Thanks for you advise.

The version of DirectX needed to run the program is included in the program installation.

If you have the disc version, shut off your anti-virus and put the disc in your DVD drive. When that opens, select to repair.

If that doesn't work, Read this and do what you can. Uninstall the p[rogram using Revo Uninstaller in the Moderate Mode. Remember to keep your anti-virus OFF and reinstall.

I did every thing above exactly as you said. I put the disc in and selected repair, didn't work. And I kept my virus protection off the whole time.

I uninstalled using Revo Uninstaller after doing everything on the Uninstall instruction sheet. Then I reinstalled Creator. VW still freezes up. In fact I even went to setup folder and shut down everything running to see if I could use VW and it froze then also.

This is the 3rd time I have done a clean uninstall and reinstall using instructions from Roxio and you.

I have no idea what to do now. I'm at my wits end and I have 4 video's I have to make. Thanks.
