Menu Buttons Don't Highlight...

Question

I read the locked post on this and followed the insructions.

Absolute Heaven when it made the buttons work in HQ mode..but when I went to the movie screen to custom set the recording mode I found that I could use up more disc space by increasing the bitrate slider.

Now when I play back the discs in a player to check them they start to freeze every few seconds near the end. These are 3hr VHS copied to 8.5gb Verbatim blanks.

Is it likely that I should just use the default settings...ie: long play, short play, ext long play...?

Thanks...thought I had it cracked.

That is odd…

What did you end up with, as far as custom settings?

An 8.5 GB should hold 2:57 at SP… That is very close to what you just described.

Guessing that you had to drop to LP for fit (adjust button settings) and then eased your way back up???

Many Players do not handle high bitrates well.

Hello Jim... By manually moving the bitrate slider I ended up with 6 bitrates. Has it anything to do with the Video Format settings..? ie: the 720 x 480, 704 x 480 etc... I think I might have clicked on a higher one (720 x 480) even though the "Long Play" setting was on the 352 x 480 setting... It certainly is a powerful piece of kit this programme.

Just one other thing... I have installed my upgrade to 2011 Pro and now a small window keeps appearing saying that windows is trying to authorise/install/configure Roxio Cine Player.. I keep pressing cancel until I get a window that says put the installation CD back in. I am not aware that 2011 Pro has Cine Player included... Any advice..?

Thanks again for all your help... Peter.. Xx

CinePlayer inclusion goes back many, many versions!!! Your 2010 had it as well as EMC 10.

I ended up installing 2011 on a newly formatted drive but no one has ever reported any conflicts of installing 2011 while leaving 2010 on their PC…

I would follow the Prep Steps (KB Page) then do a Repair to see what happens.

I just have not gotten around to testing all of this stuff in 2011!

Put the 1st disc of 2011 back in and pressed ok... Did a load of upgrading and problem fixing window opened... Eventually went to an error message.. Clicked on that then it said restart to fix problems.. Did that and it's on now.. Result..!!

Just gone to use 2011 Pro to capture video and it still doesn't capture immediately.. It waits until the picture has started (only a few secs) before the capture now button highlights... Niggling me that...

OK!

What problem do you want to follow up with:

The DVD Player freezing?

The Capture problem?

Or BOTH :lol::D:lol:

Are you using the Roxio Capture USB device or something else? Can you hook a DVD Player to it for capture testing?

Cheers Jim.... ggrussel has suggested that the discs freeze on the customers' players because their players cannot handle a high bitrate.. I haven't a clue what bitrate is... I'm hoping that most customers will have decent players...!! The capture problem can be circumvented by recording to WMM but this is a b**lache... I saw your suggestion about hooking the Roxio USB (2861) device thru' a DVD player...I think I can do this as I have a DVD player with s-video in & s-video out... Does the DVD player need to be switched on for the the signal to be boosted..? It would be good if there was a guide as to what all the different settings mean/do in Roxio 2011 Pro...ie:what all the boxes etc. mean on the "project settings" screen... Thanks again Jim

Nothing has changed with Media Import that I can tell. A problem was reported with buttons not highlighting in C2010 when the project video got close to 3hrs on 4.7GB disc. I haven't tested this in C2011 yet.

You're right.... Capture hasn't changed... Unless you sit in front of the playback constantly monitoring it you are exposed to capture stopping every time there is blank/static/interference on the tape... You then have to save and check where it had recorded up to and then rewind the master and start from there.. Very, very annoying... I have given up today on one project and have started to capture using Windows Movie Maker.. It gives the option of starting recording before you even start the master/project. This gives a nice clean/black screen start.. And it rides any amount of mush during playback/record... This can be edited out later in Videowave.

I hope Roxio can sort out an upgrade to remedy this (if it can be done) because most of the work I get is transferring peoples' old/damaged VHS to DVD... It just seems too sensitive...

Gary Sknis and I actually went over all of this in the 2 Topics you started weeks ago – Here and Here

You never bothered to respond and apparently never bothered with any of the suggestions then…

If you continue to ignore the questions and advice from experienced users, how do you ever expect to improve?

Sorry Jim... I have managed to improve thanks to advice from you, gskinis & ggrussel.. I admit I'm flitting between threads with similar problems. I have somewhere in the threads stated that I have made headway.. I do appreciate all the help I have been given and would not like to alienate myself from further help/advice by appearing ungrateful. For what I am doing, Roxio is a way-to-powerful piece of software but by learning, slowly, all that it can do will give me room to experiment and do a better job. Thanks again... Peter
