jclaer
I put my family video out with Apple's iDVD and foolishly did not save all original tapes. Most of the DVDs still play OK on common players. Most of the DVDs produced will not input to Mac with handbrake because of bad spots. The Mac overheats! Do Roxio products work better? If so, which product do I need?
tsantee
Your issue may be the result of the quality of the disc media. Toast has a feature in its Copy mode called "Use Disc Recovery". This takes a long time but does well in restoring content from discs that are scratched or have read errors. Another thing I would try is to use an external DVD drive to read the faulty discs instead of the built-in drive as Apple's Superdrives are not very good. You may find that using a better optical drive for the reader is all you need in many cases.
