Question

Just purchased today from store, most recent version (Build 201B23A) of "Easy VHS to DVD" hangs on splash screen when I double click on the icon after installation. Recent PC running Windows 7 Home Premium. Looks like it should be straightforward, but not working right. What am I missing?

OK thanks again Jim, think we're sorted now. I am chopping the files up to make the chapters where needed, it's not too much work - Mum's project is nearly finished.

best wishes,

Dave

???

They are not actually Chapters that way but rather seperate Titles. but if that works for you, GREAT!

Never tried that, let us know how it pans out.

Thanks for the assistance Jim,

I did that (run "repair") and then had to do a bit of trouble shooting but finally it worked, although I thought it had hung on the splash screen again when in fact it was just taking a very very long time to talk to the roxio site to register the software. Lucky I got distracted while the product rego screen finally came up or I would have rebooted without realising the problem had actually been fixed.

The install was hanging up on the fact that Roxio burn launcher and Roxio burn were running (I had not started them, they must be automatically started, or maybe they came with this software when I first tried to install it?). The installer could not close these applications itself. The install was only successful when I killed them with Task Manager before letting the install continue. Some screen captures attached.

This is not something a basic user (like my Mum, for whom I am installing this software) could have solved, so hopefully Roxio will take note. Mum would have already returned it to the store, but I persevered, with your help.

Tested it out, works great so far.

Ah, yes you're right - that part I did manage and maybe even Mum could've gone that far with some help over the phone from one of us. Unfortunately this software didn't want to put those images in the correct order, so the top image on my last post is the second one I wanted to show - it gives the message from the installer after I clicked OK to automatically close the offending applications. The installer couldn't shut down the Roxio burn things - I needed to do it with task manager, and even then they didn't want to die, took a couple attempts. Tough programs! I blame Bill Gates. For everything, really.

cheers!

Got it! And I overlooked the fact that you have another version of Roxio on that PC too…

There will be no "conflict" but it is interesting that the Installer balks at a program (Roxio Burn) that is not even part of the package it is installing.

But that does indicate you have Creator 2010 or possibly the Dell OEM 10.3???

The OEM would be of little advantage but the 2010 could fully eliminate any need for the V2D software :o

No, we don't have Creator installed, but it does look good. Does it also come with the video capture USB and leads?

I was told by the clerk when we bought the software that we could add chapters and edit the video, but I cannot find a way to make chapter breaks other than when individual clips are merged. I see how the trimming options work, which is handy, but if I create a single file from a VHS tape then so far as I can see, this will be all a single "scene" when I burn the DVD. Have I overlooked the feature or is Creator required to get that? (other than making lots of small segments then merging them).

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by the Dell OEM 10.3 but attached are the system specs if they are helpful.

There are no Chapters with V2D, you did not miss them ;)

Every Dell that left the factory, with a burner, has the Dell OEM Software. The 10.3 version is a set that works in Win7. It has some limited functions. It is there, the Roxio Burn gave it away.

Creator 2011 is the full program Suite. It can use the Roxio Capture USB device to capture with. Of course more capability also means more complexity…
