Restarting Cancelled Projects?

PirateCapnSpazz

Question

Hi! I bought BoT3 because my computer blue screened and I have a lot of crap that I don't want to lose. So I started backing up everything and I had to cancel because I ran out of blank discs! I saved the project and cancelled because I didn't think I should leave the program on or leave the prompt to put in a new disc on either.

I tried opening the project just to see if I could start where I left off, but nothing happened I was just brought to the Back Up Files main screen. :/ So can I start back where I left off? Or do I need to start over? I'm not too upset over starting over, I just wish I waited to buy more blank discs if I have to! XD

I'm afraid you'll have to start the backup over.

If you saved it it will still have the contents remembered but will have to write the discs over again.

You might think about an external hard drive as a solution.

It's much easier to back up to a hard drive than to discs that you have to keep taking out and putting in.Plus you have lots more room on a hard drive.

That's true, now I feel silly for buying this! XD Eh, it was twenty bucks so I'm not too upset.

Most any writing project like that, when it fails, does not offer an option to restart. And with a backup such as you were doing, even less so, because now there's a good chance that the data being backed up may have changed, so the backup program will want to make sure you have the latest data.

So, while I haven't tried what you've done, I'd be quite certain you'll have to start afresh.

Now, my next question would be, what is your plan once you have everything backed up? Format and reinstall Windows? If so, you might want to save your disc money, and buy a new HD. Install the new drive, load up Windows et. al., and then you can connect up your old drive and start copying your data directly from the old HD. Just a thought.

Good luck!
