psmallri
Sorry but I posted this under an incorrect topic so am reposting. I have a video (MOV) file, from a digital camera, and I'd like to use it in a Slideshow. I have done this successfully in Roxio2010 Videowave, and it plays happily and correctly. Switch to Roxio2011 with exactly the same MOV file and the sound is jumpy and rubbish. This is on exactly the same PC, and when I play the MOV file in Media Player it plays fine. Any ideas - I'm sure I had this in a previous Roxio release but can't figure out what setting I may have changed to fix it.
psmallri
Thanks Sknis, I have downloaded that excellent tool and it does exactly what it says on the tin, and until Roxio get round to providing a fix at least I can easily avoid the problem. I have to say all my previous Digital Cameras always created AVI Movies (Motion J-Peg I think) and this new camera from Canon has decided to go the MOV route for compaction and quality reasons. Since this forum is not the best route to get software faults fixed, I did raise a Support Call on Roxio yesterday but apart from an acknowledgement I've heard nothing, but I did include a link into this forum topic so they can see the details discussed. As soon as I hear anything from Roxio I will update this topic for everyone's benefit. Thanks again.
psmallri
Sorry I named the attachments correctly and wasn't expecting them to be embedded, so I've udpated the previous post showing the first one is 2010 (I guess you can work out the second one). 2010 I have Roxio2010 2011 Roxio2011 Pro I downloaded that Soluto Tool - now that does look interesting, it does much the same thing as my current Winpatrol but slightly more and very nice display. Thanks. Finally, thanks for the tips about how things get launched.

psmallri
At the time I reported the problem yes it was active - I have no idea what it is or how it gets launched! So, I rebooted and watched what was launched when I run Roxio2010 and Roxio2011. So, sneaky Roxio2011 tries to add three programs to my Startup RoxWatchTray.exe, RoxioBurnLauncher.exe and CP Monitor.exe. I have a utility monitoring my Startup programs and I refused these three programs being added to my startup as Roxio has no mention of these being required, and most EXE's aren't really needed by programs, they just get secretly added to make their programs run quicker and slow down system startup. Anyway, I've restarted with nothing running and the same thing occurs in 2011, and Roxio keeps trying to add those three programs to my startup. I've checked the frugal Options in Roxio and can't see anything about preventing these sneaky programs being added to the system startup. So, I've allowed them to be added and will try again. psmallri
Progress report: let all those sneaky programs get added to my system startup, rebooted and tried it again. Same jumpy Video in VideoWave.
cdanteek
Progress report: let all those sneaky programs get added to my system startup, rebooted and tried it again. Same jumpy Video in VideoWave. Could this setting you remember from the past be, in VideoWave and MyDVD, tools, options, render in software or hardware? psmallri
I'm sure you can appreciate if I could remember it I would have checked it, so sorry I can't recall. However, I did check that all the settings I'm aware of are the same in 2010 and 2011. Both 2010 and 2011 are set to Hardware Render. Now, I've tried another tack - on the TimeLine view, I right clicked on the MOV Video, and chose "Extract Audio" and in 2010 it was instant and did just that, but in 2011 it sat at the Extract progress Window doing nothing! Not even asking if it's OK to overwrite the existing extracted audio. Am I missing some kind of Codec on 2011? It's just very strange that 2010 works perfectly on the same PC. Hmmm - I'm going to crack this as it's really annoying me now!
psmallri
OK more information. Right clicking on the MOV file in TimeLine view in VideoWave reveals the following for 2010 and 2011. Spot the difference but I don't know why! First screen shot is 2010....... sknis
Just in cae, which is which? Do you have the Pro version or the standard version for each. This does not address the mov issue but does address the programs that are started when you boot your computer. There is a late Beta available (Soluto) to change how many application start when your boot your computer. Since it is a Beta, use it at you own risk. I have used it one three different computers running Vista or W7. I used it on my Son's laptop and it took the boot up from several minutes down to less than one. You would be surprised how many items start on boot. There are three different options for each application. Turn off all the no brainers, and turn off or delay the optional ones. Don't; touch the needed ones. If you delete the application, it deletes the start up selections you made. By the Way cpmonitor is related to CinePlayer. It does not need to be started at boot. Burn a drag to disc type application; just go to the Creator Home page and click on tools. Uncheck the drives that kick in the burn apoplication when you insert a disc. Watch tray monitors your computer for files. It can be turned off via Browse and Manage Media (Media Manager) by selecting Tools and then selecting stop monitoring folders. This last is turned off by default so you may have accidentally turned it on. Note: It looks like it is out of beta and is still free.
psmallri
OK - some more confusing news from more tests I've done. In Roxio2011:- From Home page click Edit Video Advanced Into VideoWave Click Add Photo/Video in left hand panel Select MOV video to be added The start of the Video appears in the large screen in the middle and in the TimeLine Click PLAY button below large screen Jumpy Audio on Video However, leave it exactly as it is and..... On the right hand panel, select Media Selector tab Navigate to MOV directory The MOV appears with the start displayed in the Media Selector, including a PLAY button below the thumbnail Click the PLAY button below the Thumbnail in Media Selector Play correctly (albeit only in the thumbnail in Media Selector) And also, leaving above exactly where it is and...... In Media Selector select MOV file Click Preview button at top of Media Selector panel Play correctly in pop-up window And finally...... Click "send to MyDVD" and press preview/play there Jumpy Audio If I get more info I'll post more, but bear in mind in the UK (where I am) we play in PAL format, not NTSC, could it be anything like that? I can't imagine that's the problem as I'm not getting anywhere near the point of burning anything for DVD/TV.
ggrussell
Jumpy audio could be caused by several things. Source, original bitrate, mono vs stereo, could be related to video card not being able to keep up, etc. MOV is based on MP4/H264 which is highly compressed. Usually Creator will create a proxy file for video and audio that is used for preview and editing. Make sure you have given Videowave enough time to create these proxy files. hasykes
Just to keep anyone following this topic updated with progress. I sent Roxio Support a small sample MOV file from my Canon SX10is camera that exhibits the Audio problem, and I have just heard they have reproduced the problem and are working on a fix. I have other digital cameras, but they produce AVI (motion JPEG) files and they play in Roxio2011 fine. As soon as I have a fix I'll update this topic accordingly. I echo the need for a fix!! My first project with VideoWave 2011 was to create a "slideshow" video combining stills with videos. The stills inserted just fine. Upon trying to insert the first video between stills, the exact problem by psmallri occurred: the viedo track was fine, but the audio track was truncated and out of synch. It happened that the video came from a Canon S10IS. I reverted to running the same project on my laptop which has VideoWave 2009. Everything ran perfectly. If Roxio support has recreated the problem, it seeme to me isolating the cause should be close at hand by comparing a video insertion in 2011 to an earlier version. What say you Roxio? I have a Canon that records mpg2 to DV tape natively so I haven't had the problem with that Canon. I have had other files to work with from friends and if they are not supported by Video Wave, Any Video Converter seems to do the job. Perhaps if Roxio is looking for an acquisition ! retiredguy04
Just to update anyone following this thread, I have had confirmation from Roxio Support that they have reproduced the problem with the sample MOV file I sent, but as yet have not provided a fix. I've also now heard from someone else who is having the same problem using a Canon EOS 60D and have suggested he raise his problem with Roxio Support, even if it's the same. I am also having a problem with shortened audio for my MOV files and was preparing to make a post when I saw yours. I am using a Cannon EOS T1i camera. I will add to the list on Roxio Support and thanks for your efforts. Think I will also try the work around you found.
psmallri
Sadly, Roxio Support have finally given up trying to address my problem so I have asked for a full refund. This was my last post on my Ticket just to close this off here for everyone's benefit. ================ I'm deeply sorry that you seem to have given up any hope of resolving my problem, however, to finish things off as you requested, I have Exported the original MOV file to my iPhone and it play quite correctly. As you have suggested that you will raise an Exceptional Refund I think in the circumstances that is my preferred option so could you go ahead and arrange for the refund to be made. Let me know if there is anything (other than to remove the s/w) that I need to do. I have to say I am absolutely staggered that you can't resolve the issue, having sent you a sample MOV and you confirmed you can reproduce the problem, you also seem to keep missing the fact that the same MOV plays correctly in Roxio2010. You also may or may not be aware that several other users in your forums and elsewhere with differing Canon Cameras are having the same problems so this may not the last time you hear about this problem. I'm very sad to not be able to use Roxio2011 as I've always enjoyed the Roxio Product set so will have to change my preferred supplier. In the meantime I shall continue to use my Roxio2010 until such time as I find a replacement product.

psmallri
For anyone who is still intrigued by my problem I've located a sample MOV file created on the same Digital Camera (Canon SX10is) that I own, and if anyone wants to download the sample MOV and try it their own Roxio2011 please feel free. http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/SX10IS/SX10ISA.HTM The Video has a download link and a play link. psmallri
OK this gets weirder and weirder. Thanks for the reply, but as I said, this is the same video MOV file, on the same PC, and in 2010 it is fine, but in 2011 the audio is jumpy. I had a look in the PROXY directory and saw that the 2010 WAV file for this movie is 30secs long and about 2.5mb, but in 2011 the same WAV file is 8secs and only about 950k. So in 2010 in the SoundEditor I get the correct details, but in 2011 I get the incorrect details.

Sonny66
Also HD MOV files from CASIO cameras as ZR10 gives the same issue So the question is for how long Roxio can afford to say no thanks to the potential money from these two leading camera brands' users... spump
I'm so glad I found this post! I have a Canon sx20is, and I'm having the same issues! Roxio support kept trying to blame my computer but clearly that is not the issue!

If you are expecting an answer on this forum, you probably won't get it. Roxio pays for the space but does not normally have anyone reading the posts on a regulsr basis. After all, it is a USERS forum. Creator 2011 is a flagship program for Roxio and provides free tech support for a time after you purchase it. If you complain and others do the same, perhaps it will be fixed in a future SP. Blame Canon for doing something with the audio file (possibly). Use something like "Any Video Converter" to batch convert your videos to a HD mpg2 file and then add those.
DLConst
I too, have the same "problem" with audio skipping in, (Roxio 2011), Videowave. I am using a Canon 7D 1080p camera. I have found that the video and audio play just fine in CinePlayer as well as Windows Media Player. The audio skipping only happens when you try to use the video in Videowave. I tried to convert video file using "Any Video Converter", this resolved the audio skipping, but degraded the 1080p video to almost unwatchable. My current work around uses Roxio Video Copy and Convert, converting the video clip to 1080p - highest quality. This does work without much video quality loss. Also Adobe CS5 Premiere will convert video file to AVI which is better quality that Copy and Convert. I have been in contact with Roxio about this problem and have sent them a video clip sample to work with. I have not heard back from Roxio, (It's only been 6 days), and have suggested that they need to create a patch to resolve this issue. I find it hard to believe that Roxio will not fix this problem, given that Canon is one of the TOP name brands and camcorders are losing to camera that also take video. Question
