3D Video Edited In Creator Contains Colored Band On Bottom

markr041

Question

I put together a video from clips taken with the Fuji W3. These were 24fps 720p videos (what the Fuji W3 produces). I then saved the combined clips as a reald 24p, AVC 720p video. The resulting video has a slim multicolored band on the bottom. I did nothing in the editor but string together the raw files and then output.

You can view the 3D video on Youtube, and see the band:

Select 720p. If you go to the Youtube site, you can view the video in 3D and in 720p.

What is going on?

Yes, I can see it on the computer monitor. If I watch it in Roxio CinePlayer, it is clearly visible at the bottom of the frame.

I don't see it in the anaglyph preview within MyDVD. I do see it when playing the AVCHD video written by MyDVD(.m2ts file).

Did you try what Gary outlined in Post #14 that eliminated it???

I updated the video driver as instructed by Roxio Customer Care. No change, as expected. Then they asked me to install the divx codec (but I am pretty sure it already is installed), and referred me to some article about certificates/permissions that didn't seem to relate to the problem. I'm asking for more info.

I would still be interested in finding out if anyone has created an AVCHD RealD project in MyDVD, from any source, that doesn't have the color bars.

You are probably getting about what I got. The issue is that I don't have a 3D TV. I do have a 3D video card/glasses/monitor and 2 different play back applications and do not see the color bars. Apparently it shows up on TVs only.

I also could not use the mpo files that were available for download. They gave me the same appearance that you showed. I took the mpo files and converted them to Side by side L/R jps files. I was able to watch the files in great 3D appearancel but getting out of either of the video watching application was a hassle. I had to use task manager and reboot. Both would let me watch only in full screen.

A theory ! My 3D monitor native resolution is 1620 by 1050 and possibly the program works at that resolution. TV resolution has 1920 by 1080. The TV may not see any input for those last lines and does a color bar. This theory is way out but I can't figure out anyhitng else.

mbuschana. Could you try this? Set the TV to a different display mode. You probably have 16 by 9, 16 by 9 stretched, and or/ 16 by 9 zoom. See if one of those removes the color band and still lets the 3D show.

When I get a chance I will repeat what I did with a different screen resolution. It will be a couple of days before I try it.

I did try the files... :glare:

CinePlayer WILL NOT play MPO files. Not sure how you got that to happen???

I tried creating AVCHD 3D directly in MyDVD.

I did 2, One RealID and the other as Anaglyph.

Both played back in CinePlayer without any bars present. - Now keep in mind that I do not have a 3D card or monitor, which probably makes my "result" suspect ;)

The RealID looked like this:

Jim,

Interesting--I did not realize that the bars are actually there in the .mp4 file also, because CinePlayer and the preview do not show it, as you discovered! But I also see them in that file if I use Windows Media Player.

I'll bet you can see the bars in the .m2ts file on the disk you burned by using Media Player or CinePlayer. (File is on the disk: BDMV\STREAM\00000.m2ts.) However, I noticed if CinePlayer is running in too small of a window, the bars do not show up (due to the downscaling, I suppose). Re-sizing the window makes the bars visible.

As far as seeing the bars on your TV, I see it is a Samsung, just like my 3D TV. It is probably running in regular 16:9 mode, which has some overscan (upscaling) that will hide the color bars. If you press the P.Size (Picture Size) button on the remote, you will cycle through some other selections. The "Screen Fit" choice will likely eliminate the overscan, and then I think you will see the bars. This is assuming your TV has controls similar to mine and some other Samsungs I have seen. There is some chance also that they won't show up if it is a 720p TV rather than 1080p, but I'm just speculating on that.

(As I mentioned in a previous post, this P.Size control is disabled on my TV when in 3D mode, so I can't hide the bars that way.)

If you confirm this is the case, I think you have fully reproduced my problem, at least (and I've learned a few more things along the way). Even if you can't think of a work-around, it would allow me to tell Roxio that the problem has been reproduced on a different computer/software installation.

Thanks,

Mark

OK, I did it and ended up with more head scraching than answers

When I completed VideoWave and created the export file, it shows lines when clicked:

But when preview played - No Lines:

post-39730-052709900 1326313685.jpg

Played with CinePlayer, No Lines!

And yet in Windows Media Player, LINES!

Lastly, when burned as a RealID 3D AVCHD on my regular TV, no lines:

so confused I am...

I finally got the images downloaded and extracted. Perhaps it is my set up but I could not even get the MPO files to display properly in CinePlayer 3D playback. I used the "Make 3D Photos" to convert the mpo files to full width jps files. I made a short video wmp file with that and was able to at least get a good 3D image.

I can go further because I don't have a 3D TV. I did not see any color bars on the bottom of the video on my 3D monitor.

Did you try converting the mpo to jps and try those in a production? Do you get the color bars?

I'm not surprised you can't view .mpo files in CinePlayer. MPO is kind of a "wrapper" around two (for 3D) JPEG files.

They import OK into VideoWave (Fuji 3D format). I don't see the color bars from "Make Movie" in VW. I then import that .mp4 file into MyDVD. I don't get color bars until the very last step--when I create the AVCHD disk or files in MyDVD. You can see the color bars by playing the .m2ts file created in that step in CinePlayer or MediaPlayer or whatever--you don't need a 3DTV to see them.

I haven't yet tried converting the MPOs to another format first, but I did try including a Fuji W1 video in my production. The color bars appeared throughout the production.

Has anyone been able to create an AVCHD RealD production with MyDVD from any source that does not have the color bars?

The latest instructions from Roxio are to upgrate my video driver--seems like an odd suggestion for this problem, but I'll check if an update is in order.

Yes that would be annoying!

Can you post a few of these mpo's on a web site so that we can download them & work with them?

A site I often use is UpForDown.

I uploaded a ZIP file with three samples, using the site above.

http://www.upfordown.com/pupload/view/68234

File name is SampleMPOs.zip.

In the Roxio tools, I import them as "Fuji 3D".

I also have a ticket open with Roxio, who asked for a screen shot. I sent them one and also pointed to examples on this forum for both Creator 2011 and Creator 2012.

In VideoWave, my current test project source files are just .mpo stills (from my Fuji 3D camera), sometimes edited with Stereo Photo Maker, but re-saved in the .mpo format. These were brought into VW as "Fuji 3D" format.

VW then creates the .mp4. I am using "RealD, 1920x1080/60p" for that export operation.

I had previously just added that .mp4 movie to the MyDVD project (AVCHD, RealD). It didn't ask me for the format. But, after reading the above, I checked the format using Movie->3D Format Correction... It showed as Fuji 3D (before doing anything), which seemed odd, because I was expecting "RealD". Selecting "RealD" didn't seem to change anything--if I brought the menu up again, it still showed "Fuji 3D".

However, if I switched the format to "Half-Width, L/R", it did seem to do some type of conversion. The menu would show "Half-Width, L/R" if I re-opened the 3D format correction dialog, which gave me hope.

But, when I burned the project, the RGB color bars are still there. :( They are more annoying than you might think when viewing on a 3DTV--since the patterns don't line up in the L/R views, they stand out in an obvious way.

I have some Fuji W3 sample files. I'll try output to RealD and see what happens.

----

I can duplicate this. I output to RealD in MPEG 2 720p and AVCHD 1080p. Both had the RGB bars at the bottom.

I also get the RGB bars at the bottom using any video file. Not just the Fuji. Try using 2D and convert to 3D. Then output to RealD.

But it would look like those bars would be in the TV Safezone. Have you actually burned the RealD file to a disc and played it back on a TV set?

---

Just by looking at the playback, RealD appears to nothing more than Half Width, L/R. If I choose that option, there are no color bars. Try playing that back on your 3D HDTV set and see if that works for you.

I'm a bit confused by that post. In VideoWave, if I select Half-Width L/R, there are no AVCHD options. The "AVC better quality" option would give only 800x450. That may be good enough for YouTube, but not what I am looking for. I used the following in the "Make Movie" dialog:

Purpose: AVC (H.264)

3D Video Format: RealD

File Quality: AVCHD 1920x1080/60p

I do not see the color bars in the file produced by this step. They appear after creating the AVCHD in MyDVD. In MyDVD, the only options I see for a 3D AVCHD project are Anaglyph and RealD.

Thanks for the help.

Mark

I Think Gary meant...

Either the VW 3D Format Correction:

post-39730-091586700 1325606385.jpg

Or just using the Real3D project type in MyDVD...

In either case, have you burned one and run it!!! DVD-RW's are great for trying things out ;)

Did you try RealD which is a side by side format. I assume that is what you want.

Does this help?
