Roxio Burn Data Disc Never Works

kcobley

Question

I have had huge problems with Roxio Burn Data Disc I have reinstalled a couple of times but after a couple of burns the errors appear again.

Roxio support will not help and just emails the "burning issues page" which of course I have already read (I always read Knowledge Data Bases prior to contacting support).

When burning to CD or DVD Roxio Burn Data Disc just won't work with the following errors:

There was a problem writing to the disc. You can try again by clicking the Retry button. You will need another blank disc ready.

PxSFS.DLL: 4.18.16.0

PxWave.dll: 4.18.16.0

When burning to BLURAY it works however starts another problem: I am trying to backup User Name folders: Documents (9GB),Favourites,Music (6.5GB),Pictures (7GB),Contacts

After drag and drop and sucessful burn I open the Disc to check contents and find Documents only burned up to the letter "M" no document with a title beginning with "N-Z" are burned (no message or warning to say some content not copied) similarly with pictures content has just not been included in the burn.

I regret buying this software it's clearly very poorly written (also evidenced by Windows Movie Maker which produces a much better video result especially transitions and menu's Roxios still got the old style cartoony menu Movie Maker has the much better frame slide show menu)Roxio's only advantage is the high speed Cuda burning.

Anybody know how to fix these issues?

I gather that you have two issues - one is that you cannot burn DVDs and the other is that only some of the files are shown when you do get a disc to burn.

Borrow/Beg/or buy a different brand of CD and/or DVD. Something like Verbatim. The spotty performance seems to indicate that you are using Memorex or other off brand of CD/DVD. Are you burning the blu-ray discs on the same burner as the standard discs?

Are you using drag and drop or burn data disc? Did you go into the options and set any of the advanced settings such as memory cache?

Have you tried "Burn Data Disc -Advanced" aka Creator Classic? That seems to work better and there a more options.

Which of the menus are cartooney looking? Are you using Create DVD? How many menus do you have a choice of?

Return the software if you bought it within 30 days from the Roxio on-line store.

Only ever used verbatim since burners invented!

Thanks a lot for your expertise, none of the Roxio suport staff could so easily give me an answer for this issue but you did in a few seconds.

I had altered the cache settings to 75MB and it's clear that the burning functions properly at the default 4.7. Don't know why the software cound not just say that instead of the cryptic error messages.

Doesn't fix the incomplete files problem, the reason I altered the cache file size was because in copying my documents folder to Bluray it would only copy documents as far as the letter "M" and would always leave the rest of my documents out of burn. There seems to be a file size limit of around 9.6GB, Roxio just leaves the remainder of your burn out without telling you.(I mistakenly thought that raising the cache file size would fix the problem).

However your suggestion to use Creator Classic has allowed me to burn more sucessfully with the large files, There also needs to be a little fix needed on the file size display. Sometimes it disappears below the bottom of the Window.

Roxio needs to fix up the large file bugs in "data disc burn".The support staff were not particularly helpful in showing me this.

I am an ex Dell customer and have just transferred my operation of this software from the Dell cut down Version to Creator 2010 and have just installed the Bluray burner in my new machine because I was sick of burning huge stacks of DVD's. I was use to the simple Data disc burn in Dell but of course I did not have a Bluray so the smaller file size was not an issue.

I am again speaking from the point of view of an extensive user of Windows Movie Maker, which has no preset menus at all it merely shows a short sequence slideshow taken from frames inside the movie you are making and a simple text menu superimosed on the slide show, it's a really impressive feature. I make my movies in Roxio now because of the fast transcoding Cuda feature, but now I have stopped using Roxio menus and make them all direct run. I really miss the Windows Movie Maker Menu system as I have already said it's light years ahead of anything I have seen (as are their transitions) and it's very simple to use.Roxio tries to overwhelm you with choice and complexity when none is need.

Just so you know that you can make your own menus in MyDVD. You can use a slide show (speeded up) or a video as the background. You might like to make a slide show using the slide show assistant to make sure of those transitions and then output it to a video file. You can than add the video file as the menu. The slide show assistant should be found under the photos tab and then "Make slide show". I have Creator 2011 loaded so I don't remember exactly.

This (link) is old but it should still work similarly in Creator 2010.
