Should I Purchase This Software

sue_2337

Question

Media Creator 9 (which came with my computer) transferred all of my videos from my video camera just fine. Now that I am on to old VHS-C's that I am using a VCR adapter for (Because I no longer own the camera), it fades in and out and tells me I have "lost signal". When I plug the same VCR into the TV with the same tape, they show just fine. Is it the free software? Do I need to upgrade to VHS to DVD? or something else?

What does the VCR adapter do?. Does it have a make and model #.

How is this adapter hooked up to your computer?.Details would help.

I am trying to copy VH-C tapes, using adapter. When I play them on tv, with same vcr and same adapter, they play just fine. When I try to convert them using Roxio Media Creator 9, it scrambles them, and says it is losing signal. Do I need to upgrade the software? RMC9 is what came with the computer

Duplicate post......merged them together.

The adapter for the VHC tapes. It is a VCR tape size "contraption" that you load the smaller VHS-C tape into so that it can be played in a standard VCR player.

On my computer I have the built in composite (Xcelearator). I can see the video coming through, and it will go fine for a minute or so, then it scrambles, and the connection is lost. Message comes up "signal lost, do you want to save". I say yes, rewind the video a few seconds, and start all over again. For one 10 minute video clip, I have 10 saved files. I cannot walk away from the computer, for fear it will drop signal.

Basically, the tape is coming through like it is bad when it is coming through the software. But when played through a tv, it comes through just fine. Thats why I am not sure if I need to upgrade the software, or if there is a problem with my connections.

When I used the software (Media Creator 9) and my video camera (an old high8) the tapes dubbed just fine.

Media Creator 9 (It is what came with the computer. The same thing happens when I did the regular VCR taped home movies, but not as frequently. After I got the computer, I was talked into buying Pinnacle 14, which will not see the VCR at ALL, and in doing some reasearch, it wont. I just don't want to spend more money buying more software, I can't operate and can't return.

I think what is tripping me up is that you do not have the Roxio Video Capture Device, USB

Capture compatibility between devices is pretty sketchy… Most manufactures bundle software with their device that is custom designed to make up for all the shortcuts they took in hardware…

If you can plug the RCA cords (yellow, white, red) into your PC then you must have some sort of capture card… You are going to have to use the Software that came bundled with that card.

Yes, the computer came with the capture card built in to the front of the computer, so I cant tell you what it is, other than it says "Xcellerator" on it, and it is the red, white and yellow connection points. The software that came with the computer preloaded, was Roxio Media Creator 9.

If I do buy "VHS to dvd", does it come with the capture card? and then can I do simple editing with this as well? Or should I go with another version. I am willing to do what ever I need to do, to get these videos transferred. Im just a little frustrated, that I bought the computer specifically with all of that built in, for specifically the reason of doing these tapes, and I have spent the last month just being frustrated.

Again, what I am looking to do is transfer VCR tapes to my computer, do some basic editing and burn to DVD.

Before buying anything, why not make it work???

I appreciate your frustration and I think we have enough combined energy here to get you going ;)

What PC do you have? What Operating System?

Have you dealt with the manufacture about using the built in Analog-to-Digital converter?

(if they put in the card they should support it!)

Has it ever worked?

Have you ever tried it with a DVD Player or camcorder?

If you press the Win-Pause keys together and select Device Manager, look for the card in there. Describe its' Properties.

It has Vista on it, and I purchased it about a month ago from Dell. I have not contacted them regarding THIS problem, because I have never had very good luck in the past.

Yes, it did work previously. I have had three different video cameras in the past many years. One took fully size VCR tapes. Those converted okay, with minimual "scambeling issues". After that, we had a high8. I still own that camera, and went through the camera. These worked with no problems whatsoever. Lastly, are the VHS-c, which we no longer own the camera, so I am using the adapter (which the tapes just fit into to make it VCR compatable. I have also used two different adapters.

With the VHS-C tapes, it goes 10 seconds, and then scrambles and loses signal. And does this throughout the tape.

Not sure what you mean by Win-Pause keys

Homemade

That was a long shot.... Try taking the output of your VCR and feeding it through a camcorder (if one of yours will do that). It could be the level of your VCR is not high enough for your capture device to detect correctly.

I ended up buying the Roxio VHS to DVD. The tapes are coming over just fine. Not sure what the "hang up" was, but its fixed now. And glad... Just really want this project done for Christmas. Thanks for all the help

Thanks for the feedback.
