Problem Writing To Disk

TeeGee

Question

I just received my roxio VHS to DVD software and have tried it on two different videos. The video plays and goes through the time set to record. After the record time, I get a message that says writing to disk. In just a few seconds, I get a message that says problem writing to the disk. I click "OK" and the program continues as if it is writing to the disk. I get a message that says "this may take several minutes" and the program appears to be writing. However, it runs forever. I actually let it run overnight once. I cannot eject the disk and cannot stop the program without going to task manager three or four times or turning the computer off. When I try to cancel the program, I get a message that says it cannot be stopped because it is still writing to the disk. When I finally get the program stopped and get the disk out, it appears that there is nothing on it. I have no problems when I write other information (photographs,Word files, etc.)to disks. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks for your response. I think that it was my error. I used formatted disks when I had the problem. I tried it with an unformatted disk and it appears to have worked. I am not real sharp with these things. I will try your suggestion also.

Formatted discs? Where did you get them? There is no program in VHS2DVD that formats discs nor are there any requirements for formatted discs. The only programs that required discs to be formatted was Roxio's Drag-to-Disc and Sonics DLA. Both of these programs are no longer in any of the recent Sonic/Roxio suites.

As I said, I am not real sharp on these matters. When I put a disk into my disk drive it automatically opens a window that asks what I want to do. When I click on an option, it opens another window to format the disk. Not knowing any better, I formatted the disk. Now I know. I'm glad there are sharp people like all of you out there.

Thanks to all.

You should not even be getting any option to format a disc. Do you have Drag-to-Disc installed? Do you (or did you have) any other Roxio software package installed before installing VHS-to-DVD?

Are you perhaps using RW (rewritable) DVDs?

Both Vista & Win7 will offer to format whenever a blank disc is placed in the drive...

Jim, I have never had the "offer from Vista" to format a disc. I have never seen that image to posted.
