Cd Labeler Does Not Display Full File Name

bongogirl

Question

I just upgraded to Roxio 2011 from CD/DVD creator 5. Bought 6 & 8, but always ended up reverting back to 5 as it had the best label creator.

I love 2011 and really hope to be able to continue using it - but as happened with my previous attempts to upgrade, I'm having issues with the CD label part of the program.

In creator 5, the cd label would always display the exact information that was on the file. For example, song file "ABBA - Dancing Queen.mp3" would appear on both the label and CD text as "ABBA - Dancing Queen". When burned as an mp3 CD, the mp3 extension would also show on both label and CD text.

The filename also appeared in cells on the labeler, which allowed for easy editing of each filename if needed (although I rarely need to edit as I always name the files exactly as I want them to appear on my labels and CD text).

However, with 2011 only the song title appears on the label - so all you get is "Dancing Queen". This is a big problem for me as I make compilation discs, so I need to have the entire file name showing exactly as I have saved it. I have named all my song files by "artist - song title.mp3"

I tried switching the label option to "data" hoping it would display the full file name for printing, but no luck.

Is there any way to force the CD label creator to show/print the full file name?

Any help/advice would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks so much, Bongogirl

Most people just rename the songs to "Abba-Dancing Queen". I think that is the only way to do that. I don't use the built in Labeler but the better one from the same company (Sure Thing) and it doesn't do it either.

I am having the same problem as you are. I can not get the atist info.to appear on my label.

I have contacted Roxio several times, all I get is to "follow the directions" on the screen.

If that had worked, I would not have had to contact them.

Roxio could care less. I wish I had never purchased Roxio 2011!

If you find a fix for this problem, will you please let me know?

Thanks you,

Darlene

UPDATE:

While getting help on an mp3 burning issue I was able to learn that the labeller in 2011 simply won't print the artist unless you go in to manually change the audio tags to include the artist in the song title.

While a solution if you don't mind that extra step, it simply wasn't workable for me as I do a lot of burning and manually changing hundreds of tags every week is just not possible.

I also don't like the way the CD text is written onto the CDs when burned in 2011. Same issue as the labeller - so unless you manually change the tags, both burning and labelling default to Roxio's own idea of what the track should be named. :angry2:

However, With help from fantastic Guru Brendon, I found a solution that may help others.

I have purchased several versions of Roxio over the years, but always ended up going back to v5 or v6 as it had the best labeller. However, I really like the 2011 for video, so wanted to find a solution that did not mean uninstalling it.

With Brendon's advice and help I discovered I could install v6 (Easy CD & DVD) alongside 2011. I was careful to ONLY install the creator classic and labelling functions.

So far, it works great and both programs seem to be able to live together happily so that I can use 2011 for all my video and photos, and v6 for all my CD burning and labelling.

I believe v6 is still available for purchase from Staples, so this may well be a solution for someone else who likes 2011 in general but really can't work with it's CD labelling and/or burning functions.

Hope that helps, and best of luck.

Sincerely, Bongogirl
