Video Capture Hang

crosspm

Question

While using video capture to obtain video from my Sony DV camcorder I switched the camcorder from play to off. (While it was still under the control of the Roxio software)- this caused an error (with no specific Windows detail), after which I can no longer open video capture - Windows shuts it down every time. I tried a "repair" of the Roxio software, then completely uninstalled and reinstalled the Roxio 2011 software (a very long process!!), and still get the same error. I really use and like the capture feature - can anyone suggest a fix? The error is occurring on a Sony laptop running Windows 7 64 bit.

That’s pretty far out there

I tried it and nothing unexpected happens:

Capturing:

Camcorder turned off:

Turned it back on and could capture again…

So something else is going on here :glare:

Look at your Device Manager, expand your IEEE 1394 entry and make sure there are no errors there!

If there are errors, right click on the device and uninstall it. Reboot and it should function normally again.

As a note of interest, with your camcorder plugged in and turned on, it will show up in Device Manager as an Imaging Device:
