Help>>>Scenes Are "too Small" To Split!

aidalynn

Question

I just bought Roxio Creator 2011 yesterday, in hopes of making a recruiting video for college. I have 20+ DVDs of volleyball matches from years past and need to cut out clips of me playing to add into the final product. The VOB files loaded onto VideoWave fine; they read as a 50min. movie. But when I went to split the scene I needed, I got an error message reading "The selected item cannot be split at this position, because one or both of the resulting items would be too small."

I looked at some forums from the 2010 edition, and some Gurus said the minimum time frame amount is about 10 or 15. But supposedly that's about 1/3 of a second--My clips are at least four seconds long each! I don't understand why I can't split them and move on.

I tried trimming the video also, but every time I use the trim feature, VideoWave unexpectedly quits and the whole program closes (I saw another thread where someone was talking about that too).

My last resort would be to use Copy&Convert to convert all the VOB files to MPEG4s or WMVs, so I could open them in Windows Movie Maker and edit the clips freely from there. But it would take FOREVER to convert all the files, especially because resolution is a big issue.

HELP HELP HELP me, please! I wanted to get this video out by mid-January. And by the looks of it, the whole project is a bust :(

Thanks so much~!

1. The clip MUST be selected!

2. The Scrubber must be IN the selected clip! (that is where the split will take place)

Yes the minimum split must be 11 frames.

Your mistake is in 1. or 2. above, pretty common to all of us at the start ;)

Wow... Well I feel kinda stupid now, haha. :)

Got the clips to work, thanks! Now i'm having a different problem. Every 5 minutes I have the project opened, VideoWave will stop working correctly and unexectedly quit. It happened frequently when I was using the trim feature earlier, but now it's acting up again--particularly when I slide the scrubber over a few seconds (with the double-arrow cursor). When I click on the timeline withe the little "grab hand" thing, it works fine though.

Is there some sort of update I need to install to fix these corruptions? I downloaded the service pack when I first installed the software, but I'm not sure if there's anything else that needs to be done.

Thank you for all the help~!

I believe that crashing problem has been reported by several users when sliding the scrubber. I always move the cursor by clicking on a location on the timeline. I can then slide the scrubber for fine tuning. The problem is propably due to the video system not being able to keep up as you move the scrubber.

Just re-opened my software and tried to cut some clips... Now I'm just clicking on the timeline and the program's quitting. I don't get it. Any suggestions?

Control Panel - Programs & Features - Roxio Creator 2011 - select Repair when offered.

Try that.

If it works you will have to go under Help - Check for Updates to apply SP1.

Where would I find that in Windows 7? When I went to the Control Panel, the "Programs" category only offers 'Uninstall a program' as an option. I installed two new Windows updates this morning and haven't tried reopening the software yet... But I don't know if it will change anything. Checked for updates on VideoWave too, and there aren't any.

Those were the instructions for Win7!

Keep going, Repair will appear...

Okay, so I found the repair fuction... But it didn't complete. I kinda gave up on it and fired up VideoWave to see if it changed anything. Got pretty far in editing my footage (with saving after every cut scene)! But every now and again, the software will quit like before and close altogether. Sometimes its right when I open my project that it will shut down.

I went back to try and repair the program again, and I keep getting stuck at the same part. First it asked me to insert the CD-ROM, so I did. And after it configured a number of things, a window popped up that reads:

"The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'CP.MSI' in the box below."

It gave me a browse option, so I searched the disc and found a file called D:\CINEPLAYER_561\CP.MSI. But I don't think it was it, becuase when I pressed okay, it said:

"The file 'D:\CINEPLAYER_561\CP.MSI' is not a valid installation package for the product Roxio CinePlayer. Try to find the installation package 'CP.MSI' in a folder from which you can install Roxio CinePlayer."

Then I pushed OK and got right back where I started.

HELP>>>PLEASE! This is really frustrating; I don't understand why VideoWave wants to quit after every move I make...

Thanks.
