Mpg Files Don't Play In Windows Movie Maker

ldigiova

Question

After capturing video with the VHS to DVD, the resulting mpg files do not play in Windows Movie Maker (I get audio but no video), but they do play in Windows Media Player under Windows XP SP3 (video and audio).

I've installed divx as was suggested in another forum, but to no avail.

Any other suggestions welcome.

PLease tell us what version of VHS2DVD you are using. Read this to see how to determine that.

I don't know much about WMM but if WMP can play the mpg files then your capture was Ok.

DivX has nothing to do with this.

What do you want to do with the captured video?

I am using the version that came with the hardware, which shows Build 201B23A. It's just the version that allows burning directly to DVD or Record, Edit, and Save. I am using the latter.

I've got a boxful of VHS and VHS-C I want to transfer to DVD, but I'd like to be able to clean some of it up and not dump straight to DVD.

Can you edit the mpg file with the VHS2DVD editor?

I can view it and dump it to DVD. The only modification supported in the VHS to DVD software are trim tabs - but those work and I am able to burn DVDs.

I was also able to export to WMV, which were readable by WMM.

Are we talking about different versions of VHS to DVD software? Your link shows a package with a lot more features than what I have.
