Dv Not Captured

CassElliott

Question

I am trying to capture video from my DV video camera (Panasonic NV-DA1) using the firewire port. I have used the firewire port with Pinnacle software with no issue. In the video capture screen the video box is black. The AVI file can not be previewed and is only 32kb suggesting that it does not contain any video

I am using a Dell Studio laptop with windows 7

p8600 cpu with 4Gb RAM with a Radeon 4500 graphics chip

Any help would be appreciated

My mistake was in referring to Creator 2010 as Creator 10. I guess the VHS to DVD relates to the piece of video capture usb hardware.

I think I am confusing the situation - apologies

The version of the software is Roxio Creator 2010 which came with the USB Video Capture device. My problem is capturing using a firewire connection using this software. The symptom is that no video shows in the video box on screen, and when I try to capture video nothing is copied from the camera to the hard disk.

You suggested that the drivers for the camcorder were not correct, and I responded that the camcorder is recognised as a Panasonic DV device and I asked if this was sufficient to suggest that the drivers were ok or not. Is there any other information I can give you to help resolve the issue ?

You could try a small free utility called WinDV to download via Firewire. I use it whenever I capture from myDV camcorder. It also has a feature that captures the video in separate clips based on the time code. I don't know if it will work on the OS you are running.

Yes! That is a good one to test with if the '1394 Legacy' doesn't make any difference.

The camcorder is more than 10 years old, and I can not find it on the Panasonic site.

You say you are having issues with the firewire; please describes what happens. Do you even have a firewire port? Do you have a firewire link on both the camcorder AND on your computer? Did you buy a good firewire cable with the correct plugs on both ends. There are some differences.

Both the camcorder and the laptop have firewire ports and have been used previously.

As explained previously the device is shown as "Panasonic DV Device". What I see is shown in the attached word document. The video box is black. When I press capture now the camcorder starts playing (controlled through the firewire) but the video box remains black, and nothing is recorded to the resulting avi file. It is empty.

I do not currently have pinnacle loaded on the PC and wanted to use Roxio having just purchased the software

Hi

I am not sure what I can do to resolve this issue regarding video capture. Can anyone help please

Is your camcorder about 10 years old? I cannot find anything useful on that camcorder on the internet. Can you post a link to any information on it?

You do NOT use that USB device but you can use the software. If you have Creator 2010, click on "Capture Video"; a windows will open and it will be titled "Video Import". Do you have that application? Select Video and then select your camcorder. If it is plugged in correctly and it is on, then you should see it. Do you?

You said that you were successful with Pinnacle software. Why don't you capture with that or with the software that came with the camcorder and then do any editing with Creator 2010.

In post #3 you said you had Roxio Creator 10 (you also posted in the EMC 10 forum)...in post #5 you know say you have Creator 2010.....which do you really have. EMC 10 does NOT work with W7, Creator 2010 does.

Also were does VHS to DVD edition come into this.

The VHS2DVD USB Capture device is used for capturing from an analog camcorder. You should use the Firewire connection for capturing from digital tape camcorders.

I do not understand the comment that Creater 2010 is not compatible with windows 7.

The full version name is VHS to DVD edition, which states on the box that the minimum requirements are windows 7. That is why I purchased the software. Which is the software that is compatible with windows 7 ?

Thanks for the comments.

I am using Roxio 10 Creator. The camera is recognised as a panasonic DV device. Does this mean that the driver is OK ? I have also captured using Pinnacle software through this firewire port

Roxio (Easy Media ) Creator 10 is not compatible with W7. Capture with what you have and try to edit the video; I doubt that you will get very far without having an issue.

removed my edit....oops

What Roxio software package/program are you using to capture the video?

Since you have W7 you might also like to read this post
