No Video Signal

jazi90

Question

I have installed easy vhs to dvd on a dell laptop latitude E5410 spec Intel core i5 CPU M520 @2.40Ghz 3.42GB Ram. Operating system is Window XP sp3. When I connect the video player to the laptop using the roxio video capture usb and play the video player, the roxio easy vhs to dvd software comes up with an error message "No Video signal". I have connected the cable correctly as per user guide. Also I can only hear the sound.

I had a similar experience in that the Roxio interface does not recognize a B/W composite signal. My setup does work with a Color composite signal given a few seconds to sync up. Is the Roxio UB315-E rev3 compatible with a B/W composite signal ?

A nice to have feature would be a method within the interface to select the video source. It seems that if there is a camera attached and enabled to the system, it prefers to use it over the Roxio source.

Support confirmed in a separate email that this device is not compatible with a black and white composite video source. In my case I can work around this limitation but would have been nice to know in advance.

fliptak: Your information, even though it is from Support, is only partly correct… :glare:

If you have an S-Video input, Black & White will become usable. :o

You mentioned ‘composite’ but left out S-Video, which does work. Also you should know that jazi90 is located in the UK and may or may not have S-Video depending on his SCART adapter…

OK, fair enough.

Most of this response is the result of my comment that Roxio Support informed me that it does not work with Black/white composite video.

Have a good New Year.

We proved them wrong there didn't we (from a VHS source) ;)

Thanks for taking the news so well. :)

You have a great New Year yourself.

Sorry, I did not know this was not a technical forum. I guess it is only for simple issues.

My work around involves connecting through a security DVR that automatically adds color time stamps to the video.

I will not always have that luxury. I was hoping to be able to use the Roxio device to capture a signal from a b/w pipe inspection camera.

Doesn't look like it will work for my application, just need a color camera now...

Where did you get the idea that this was a technical forum? It is just a forums for users helping each other with some Roxio problems. Most of us have zero "technical" knowledge!

It is a user forum, anyone here from Roxio has Roxio in his group member name.

You aren't the first one that's tried to use it for something else. If it works ok, if it doesn't it's not what it was designed for.. ;)

If you can work around it what is the problem?

Why all the technical business that most here don't understand?

Try user ogdens suggestion he gives to folks with no signal problems.

"Some users have had success by connecting the VCR to a DVD player then into the Roxio USB device".

I am still unable to demonstrate to myself a working example of using a black and white composite video signal.

I can get a black/white image displayed as long as the carrier contains the color burst information...

I have attached 2 digital scope images of some test signals, 1 for b/w and one for color.

The test setup is a Toshiba VHS system using a black/white composite video camera on the AV1 input and the Roxio is connected to

the AV out signal. The scope images are of the signal as it leaves the VHS player ( tapped the wire between the VHS and the Roxio )

The color signal ( a blue screen generated by the VHS player ) is displayed by the Roxio interface.

The color signal is ~ 350mv p-p

The black/white signal will show for ~ 1.5 seconds after plugging the signal in and then switches to the "No Video Signal".

The black/white signal is actually a larger signal ~ 675mv p-p, perhaps since it is actually a scene in my computer room.

Can you explain this ?

I recognize those Horsa Gliders ~ HERE

I am betting the B/W issue is probably related to the specific Device… You got yours about the same time I got mine, Feb 2009, right?

Some are more sensitive to signal level than others.

Your referring to this device?

I have captured Black and White video through a composite connector with all three versions of Easy VHS to DVD.

My Sony VCR doesn't have a S-Video connector. I suppose now I will have to find one that does and check this out.

Guys, Still does not work. Thanks for your help. I would send the kit back to the shop. Too difficult to install

If it works from your DVD player, then fails using the VCR, how can it be a Roxio"install" problem.

There are many, many different Scart adapters out there.

Yes, you are right the SCART is the problem as my VHS player has only scarts. I test it with the DVD player and it

works perfect.

How do I connect the VHS player through thr DVD player to enable the Roxio easy VHS to DVD software to pick the signal?

I have checked my settings and they are the same as yours. It is works with windows movie Maker, both audio and video. However the

video signal is not colour but black and white.

I do not understand why it does not work with the roxio easy VHS to DVD. This software is not easy to install and use.

Roxio should remove the word EASY

Anymore help

Is a Scart connector being used in you connections?.
