Invalid Index Error While Processing Files

granatog

Question

I've now received this 3 times while trying to burn using EMC 10, MyDVD. This was a DVD I created and burned both to ISO and then also burned to a DVD successfully. I then added 2 additional menus and tried to burn it again with a new name. I've tried to do it twice as an ISO and once directly to DVD. Each time it completes to 100% of Overall Progress, 100% on Current task but the error shows Invalid index Error while  Processing Files. The "details" shows the exact same wording. The DVD is unplayable - DVD player just spits it out.

I've gone thru all the temp files that were created under:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp (this included *.wav and an xml file)

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\BTN%Copy%1\*.*

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\MyDVD_Temp\*.*

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\Sonic.tmp (directory)

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\VIDEO_TS (directory)

C:\Documents and Settings\Gina\Application Data\Roxio\MediaManager10\*.*

C:\Documents and Settings\Gina\Application Data\Roxio\MyDVD10\*.*

C:\Documents and Settings\Gina\Application Data\Roxio\VideoUI10\Proxy\*.*

and either deleted them or put them in folders marked .old if I wasn't sure if they were needed. I also cleaned out my trash and did a defrag before this last burning. I

I have about 21 GB free and the file is about 3.1 GB.

Ideas anyone??

Just to be sure: burning to an iso file fails, right? If yes, can you go back to where it burned successfully by removing the 2 menus you added? Have you tried using different menus?

Like Brendon I have never heard of that error message

Yes, burning to an iso, but it also fails when burning directly to a DVD. Shows it is 100% complete but still gives that error message. My home dvd player can't read it but VLC media player can open the ISO file and play it - there just aren't any menus - it seems to start with the very first item I added and plays thru the end.

I was going uninstall/reinstall the software but I can't find the media - grrr. Instead I am going to re-build the project from scratch - similar to what you are suggesting above to see if that would help.

You say VLC can play the iso file but the menus don't appear. So the problem is in the project somewhere and not in burning the DVD.

How long in time is the project? Not interested in file size. What setting are you using for Quality? If you are using fit-to-disc then that may be your problem. That feature is next to useless in my opinion since it screws up the menus if your project is too long.

The company employs people in Roxio Support to help only with software that's still in the "support" window.

However we volunteers don't get paid anything, we're just here to help whomever we can especially if you don't qualify for paid support. :)

Well, thank you to all you digital guru volunteers out there! You've helped get me working again. I rebuilt the project from scratch but nearing the end it froze up and I had to kill it via Task Manager. *Luckily* nothing was corrupted and it burned an iso overnight!! So excited :)

Not sure exactly the problem - but it seems that maybe the menu structure (index?) was corrupted.

Thank you again for the help. I was ready to buy new software and it wasn't going to be Roxio.

Just a thought, how much RAM do you have, and how big is your swapfile?

Have you tried having Task Manager running while you're doing this, and watching how much your PF usage runs to?

Can't remember exactly what task Manager was showing as it ran, didn't remember seeing anything spiking or running out of the ordinary though - 20-30%.

I'm running Windows XP Home, SP 3

Core 2 Duo Processor (2GHz)

2GB RAM

Now managed to drop my computer down to 40GB free of 146 available.

The swap file is set on System Managed - but it don't think it's don't a good job - Recommended is 3055MB, Currently allocated is 2037MB so I think I will up that.

The thing is that I was able to burn one DVD and then added about 2K more of files and now can't do it again - even though it's still WAY under the 4.7 GB disk size. Maybe I'll uninstall and reinstall Roxio, just for fun :(

Yes, uninstall/reinstall isn't that much fun.

If you remove those additional menus, will it burn again like before or has something broken?

I thought it might be a size/resources issue in your system or the software struggling to operate in the last few KB left on the DVD. However with 2 GB of RAM and 40 GB free on HD, and if your ISO is way under the 4,700,000,000 byte [4.3GB] limit then that's not the problem. I haven't seen an "Invalid Index" error before, has anyone else out there seen it?

Quality is Standard Play. Not sure how to see the length of the project but there is still 00:14:59 in Time Remaining that can be added to the disk so the project isn't too long. Not using fit-to-disc, I've found it makes discs jumpy during playback.

I agree with your thought that the problem is the project and not the burning. Haven't been able to finish rebuilding the project yet, hope to finish it tonight.

Appreciate all the thoughts/suggestions! More help than I've gotten from Roxio support who finally replied with "your product is no longer supported."
