Roxio Mydvd 2010 Hangs At 97%

Geewiz

Question

I have two mpeg videos that I'm trying to burn to a DVD

I've created a MyDVD project using the predefined "Map" menu style. I've changed the menu audio to the included Smartsound audio clip "Piano Sonata - Solace."

The two video files are 2.26GB and 1.9GB in size.

I've tried to burn this directly to DVD, to .iso, and to DVD file structure a couple different secondary drives. I have three hard drives in my system.

Usually, when burning to any of the above output formats, the process will get to 97% and hang. I've waited for as long as overnight only to come down and find it at the same 97%.

Here's my system:

Athlon II X4 645 2.9GHz

4GB Ram

Windows 7 64 bit

3 500GB internal hard drives each with > 50% free space

HP DVD Writer 127d Optical Drive

Lite-on ATAPI iHAS124 Y Optical Drive

I purchased Roxio Creator 2010 via download

out of the last 10 attempts, the burn process to DVD completed twice but... the video on the dvd was corrupted. One video when played would pause for 1 second every 3 seconds. On another burn the video was pixelated every 3 seconds.

Generally, however, any attempts to burn will result in hanging at 97%.

Any help in resolving this will be greatly appreciated.

Samew problem you posted about on the 22nd?

How much time are you trying to put on the DVD?

Have you tried to encode (burn ) to an ISO (image) file and then burn that image to a disc?

Edit: I see that you did say that you burned (or tried) to burn to an ISO file.

Try this. Open "Edit Video Advanced" (Video Wave and add one of the files. Select to output that video to same as original. It should go quickly. If it does, do the same with the other file.

Use those files to create an ISO file. Select best quality and not any other setting when you do the encoding. USE the menu as it is; no not make any changes. Does it encode? If not, post back. If it does, then one of the changes you made to the menu is the issue.

Please come back and let us know.

I found one other person who had the same problem and the OP solved it by encoding to her system drive. Are you using a different drive to endode the project to?

Yes.. I'm using a different, secondary drive, in my system. I'm in the middle of burning to ISO as you suggested previously. Will report back on the results.

Thanks!

Yes: someone suggested there that I should open a new thread

How much time are you trying to put on the DVD?

Generally less than two hours. I'm compiling Frank Capra's "Why We Fight" WWII series. There are 7 films averaging about 45 minutes and 1.2Gb each. I'm using MyDVD to create a very simple menu of two films per disk.

I did as you suggested and had the same result. The burn to .iso process hung up at 97%.

Out of desperation, I then tried burning the two files using the default MyDVD theme and menu music (which I completely dislike.)

The burn to .iso process completed successfully, and I just completed burning that to DVD. I went back to trying to create an .iso using my preferred theme and music: the map theme and one of the SmartSound clips: Piano sonata - Solace. When I preview the project, the music does not play. I tried using the SmartSound export feature to export the sound clip to a .wav file and THAT hung.

So is this the offending feature in Roxio that is causing my problems?

I've already uninstalled/re-installed Roxio Creator twice. I suppose now the next step is to uninstall and re-install the Creator Content?

Once you get close to two hours on a DVD, then the quality is much reduced AND you may have all kinds of problems with the menu encoding.

In Smart Sounds, do you OWN that piece of music. There is a tab for Store and one for OWNED. You have only the owned ones unless you bought that one. I can't find the one you are talking about.

Sorry the selections are surprisingly different in Creator 2011 ! You do own that music so I might suggest that you try changing the menu as you have been and then trying just one of the videos.

I'm grasping at straws here and time on the disc and changed menu are the only things that come to mind.

I appreciate your help. Both my computer, and my copy of Roxio 2010 were purchased new just this past July, so I don't have a lot of extraneous software loaded on this system. My eventual goal is to archive to DVD some 50 hours of family video spanning 25 years.

Until I can get this software to work on creating a simple menu, I'll either have to spend a lot more time finding a fix, or simply find another software solution.

It's beginning to look like the problem is in changing the menu audio. None of the "SmartSound" audio clips will play...only the default sound clip seems to work. I can't incorporate any of the sounds, nor can I export them, though they play just fine within the "Select Background Audio" preview. Seems the problem is when it's loaded into the actual menu. I wonder if my original download was corrupted...though the installation process goes just fine?

Why not create a very simple test project using just a few photos and then use the "problem menu" to see if the problem is really SmartSound related.

Well, the project I am attempting to produce couldn't be much simpler, I don't think.

In any event, by excluding SmartSound clips from the menu, the project burns completely without problem. Smartsound will not allow me to export any of these clips. I've worked around that by using Total Recorder to capture the sound preview from the Smartsound control window. I can save that as an mp3 and that file works perfectly in my menu.

I guess the special content add-on I purchased with my Roxio Creator software really wasn't much of a bargain, considering it is not usable.

As my software is now over 5 months old, I don't suspect Roxio will provide a fix for this problem?

Thank you for everyone's help here on the forum!

What add on did you purchase? There were none 5 months ago. Are you talking about the PRO version rather than the standard version? All that did was add SonicFire wich is slightly different than Smart Sound.

I am having this same problem and have repeatedly. I just got this software for Christmas and it's been very frustrating. Are you saying when it hangs at 97% then I am trying to copy more footage than will fit on the DVD? Out of about 20 attempts (19 of them stopping at 97%, I got one DVD to transfer).

Creator 2010 has been out of production for 4 months!
