You might be a victim of the "shifting standards" in sizing drives and discs, Nigel.

 

A single-layer DVD should have about 4483 MB free, which is round about 4.3 GB, or 4,707,319,808 bytes. However some folks count in multiples of 1024 bytes while others count in multiples of 1000 bytes. The result is widespread confusion.

 

Try dragging a little less until you see it says that a single disc will suffice. Note whatever data size that is, and work on that in future.
