How do I auto-play on insert all items only 1 time?

markcpeters1

Question

I have two clips generated by EyeTV that I want to automatically play on insert. The second clip is to play immediately after the first clip. After the second clip plays, we are at the end and the first clip should not play again. It is acceptable to go to the menu.

If I check both auto-play on insert and play all items continuously, the first clip is played, followed by the second clip, followed by the first clip, etc.

If I check auto-play on insert and do not check play all items continuously, the first clip is played and I am sent to the menu.

If I do not check either auto-play on insert or play all items continuously, I start at the menu and select the clip to be played. After the clip is played, I am returned to the menu. This is as expected.

If I do not check auto-play on insert and check play all items continuously, I start at the menu and after selecting the first clip, the first clip is played, followed by the second clip, followed by the first clip, etc.

What do I need to do to get the two clips to be played only one time upon inserting the disk?

What you want can't be done with Toast's settings. You'd need to edit the IFO file in the VIDEO_TS folder using MyDVDEdit (I'm presuming you don't have DVD Studio Pro) so that the DVD is instructed to go to the menu following playback of the last title. I've never done this specific edit but will look into how to do it if that's something you really need and don't know how to do.

tsantee,

Thank you for the helpful information. You are correct in that I do not have DVD Studio Pro. I have downloaded myDVDEdit and was able to use it to obtain the desired effect. Also, I have made a contribution to its author. I am including the procedure that I used to generate auto-play on insert all items once followed by the menu.

Gratefully yours,

Mark

Procedure To Make DVD That Plays All Clips Once And Exits To Menu

1. Using EyeTV 2, select and place clips into Toast in the order that they are to be played.

2. Select both "Auto-play disc on insert" and "Play all items continuously" in Toast. Set the "Disc Name," "Menu Title," and "Menu Style" as desired.

3. From the "File" menu select "Save As Disk Image...".

4. After the "Disk Image" has been generated, mount the "Disk Image" by double-clicking on the "toast" file containing the disk image.

5. Open the disk image and drag the folder "VIDEO_TS" to the desktop.

6. Start the "Terminal" utility program and enter the following three commands to set the location of the current folder to the "VIDEO_TS" folder, to allow the "VIDEO_TS" folder and its contents to be written, and to exit the "VIDEO_TS" folder and change the current folder to the "Desktop."

7. cd $HOME/Desktop/VIDEO_TS

8. chmod +w . *

9. cd ..

10. Quit Terminal.

11. Start the program myDVDEdit.

12. In myDVDEdit open the "VIDEO_TS" folder on the desktop.

13. In the upper left section of the myDVDEdit display, select "All PGCs" if it is not already selected.

14. Click on the last item in this section of the display. The item name should be "VTS" followed by a space and a number.

15. In the bottom middle display select "Post cmds." There should be three of them.

16. Click on the filled in triangle on the last line to edit this line.

17. Next to the letters "Pgc :" change the number to "1".

18. Click on the filled in triangle a second time to complete the editing of the line.

19. From the "File" menu do a "Save" which should be active. After doing a save, the "Save" entry will no longer be active.

20. Quit myDVDEdit.

21. Using "Toast" with "DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS" selected, burn a DVD from the "VIDEO_TS" folder on the desktop. The contents of the DVD will auto-start and play one time exiting to a menu.

22. Move the "VIDEO_TS" folder from the desktop and all other :) unneeded files to the "Trash" and empty the trash.

Thank you for the great instructions.

I hope that Roxio addresses this issue; I suspect that there are many users who want to easily create DVDs or CDs that autoplay all items only once and then go to the menu, without going through the algorithm posted above.
