Tom77723
I read a thread on here that made me go back and check my files regarding my original purchase of my ECDC 6 package and any updates that I might have added. I got it early in 2004. The box is the only proof that it is the platinum Version. There is a hand written note that I must have placed on it that refers to an update. It is dated in 2005. I checked my downloaded files on and old drive that I retained and found two documents that completely were out of my memory. They are recorded as: ECDC UPDATE TO VERSION 6-2-0-134 AND ROXIO ECDC PLATINUM V6.2.0-110 UPDATE. MY QUESTION IS:I have been and am using my program based on the original system disc. I'm sure that back in 2004 and 2005 I was keeping the program updated. Somewhere along the way I've had to re-install the software and have not thought to add any updates. Should I use either one or the other or both of these updates? Both of my PC's are running Win XP with up to date Intel processors. Plenty of HDD and Memory capability. PS:I was having problems burning DVD's but they are solved after reading old threads here. Thanks to all, Tom

Tom77723
"if its working great, don't update" Hi: Thanks for your quick response. I don't plan to do anything now. I'm making vidios of old 8MM silent films that I shot 60 years ago. I had previously converted them onto VHS Tapes and then captured them using ECDC 6. After I get that done I hope to followup with Brendon (see next comment) to update a copy of the program which is on another HDD (if possible). If it works out I might try it on my multimedia system. Thanks again, Tom

I purchased my boxed copy in July 2004. The updates you list were all dated 2003. I wonder if my copy came with all those updates. I don't see one of the two I sited in my initial statement. I think that I had previously used update V6.2.0.134. Do you have a record of that update. As far as PhotoSuite is concerned, I have purchased every version of that software that Roxio issued since they took it over from MGI. I even have MGI PhotoSuite on my old HDD's and it works fine with Win 95 and 98. Another great program. Thanks again, Tom

Brendon
Hi Tom, I had a dig around and found the Engine_6.2.0.134 updater, but can't find the old HTML file from the site which referred to it. It's 6.61 MB and dated Dec 20 2003. It must be a small patch to something in the engine, since it's only 75 KB bigger than the 6.2.0.110 updater and it still shows 6.2.0.110 in the installer comments. It won't run on my system since my engine is already at .134 so I can't pry inside it too much. I wouldn't put too much store on the date you purchased it. There were no additions to it after 2003. Check the latest file date on your original CD. Unfortunately there are still shameless vendors out there selling Roxio software that's years old to unsuspecting customers Brendon

Tom77723
Thanks Tom, It will be interesting to hear how you get on. Brendon ======================= Hi Brendon: Just as I thought. Most of the files in the ROXIO Folder that resides in the PROGRAM folder are dated 2002 and 2003. There are a few older. Then there are a few dated 22 DEC 2010 which is the date that I re-installed the software because of problems finding my DVD drives. Does this mean that I should install the updates beginning with the oldest update at the bottom of your list. Or will the -134 take care of the DVD Builder which is one of my best friends in ECDC 6. Have a great day. Been real nice communicating with you and others on this site. Thanks, Tom.
Brendon
Afternoon Tom, I agree with Ogdens when he says "if its working great, don't update". However if you think it's worth the risk of jeopardizing your relationship with DVD Creator to bring your installation right up to the end of 2003, please note the following: -the .134 updater is for the burning engine only. Notes on the site say the engine update should be done first. -you don't have to step through previous updates - just the last one for each module will do the job. -the last update for DVD Creator was the December 2nd 2003 one. Dvd_v1.2.0.111.exe -the Drive Recognition Update [last on the download page] is only needed if your drive is not recognized by the Roxio software. It updates the lookup table of drives "known" by the program. -I've edited my list in post #3 to include engine .134 and the last DU updater. Regards, Brendon

The only way that I've been able to burn DVD's is by first creating an ISO file. Then I burn the ISO to disc. A direct burn from DVD Builder hasn't worked for a while. I like burning the ISO as I keep the file forever. Therefore even if I could do otherwise I would still burn ISO's for videos that I shoot. I think that I'll try the update on my second system just to see what changes result. If and when I do, I'll post the results. Meanwhile I think that I've taken up enough of your generous time. I will continue to read your postings. Thanks to all until I get into trouble again. Sincerely, Tom
