Linking To A Webpage

Blanch2001

Question

Hello all. I recently read the specs for Creator Pro 2011 and saw that it will allow you to link to external files like PDF's. But the website doesn't expand very far on this.

What other types of files can I link to? EXE's by any chance?

Will it allow you to link a DVD menu item to a url?

Best,

Rob

I don't remember reading that in Creator 2011 Pro. Please post a link to that page. Are you talking about data discs or video discs?

Hey, thanks for your responses. I was reading the comparison page here: http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/creator/compare-family.html

Under: "DVD Creation and playback", is says: "Control end-of-play action and link menu elements to specific files". My thought from reading this is that you can link a menu item to a file like a PDF file if this is what it means by "specific files". And if so, if that would in EXE files?

In MyDVD your making a compliant DVD Video.

Why would you want PDF files and EXE files on a DVD Video even if the standard allowed for it?

There is a option to include photos on DVD Video disc.

Why don't you tell us what you want to do?

You may have fallen victim to an over-exuberant copy writer. I think it means that you can 1) Select to return to menu, loop video playback or play all videos continuously. 2) You can link buttons or text on then menus to specific videos in the project.

Not as exciting as you hoped. How important is this to you because Roxio has another product ($$$) that will do just what you want -DVDIt.

Good info! I am a professional video producer and produce most of my DVD's in Encore. I have a client that would like to link a button on the DVD called "online resources" to their website. Then as the DVD gets distributed as a marketing tool, if someone inserts the disc into their computer and clicks this button it launches a browser window and displays the most recent list of online resources.

So thought #1 was to link the button to an EXE file (or something) and have a programmer author a file that looks on your computer for your default browser and then goes to the specified url.

There was a program out in 2005 called eDVD 4 by Sonic that handled this wonderfully. I even was able to download a demo last Friday. It's was great because if the DVD was put into a set top player it would function normally. If you selected the Online Resources menu, I'd display a JPEG image that I created that says please insert this DVD into a computer for enhanced functionality. When you put it in your computer you would view the DVD through an embedded player called InterActual. Then when you clicked on the button it would launch a browser window. I got all this to work on Friday. These "Enchanced DVD's" were quite popular for a long time.

However, when I clicked "buy now" after demo'ing I learned this software is no longer available. So I was hoping I could find the above functionality in a newer product.

Best,

Rob

cdanteek, i suppose that is your way of saying it's not possible, or you don't know?

I called the phone service and for the record they speak horrible english and weren't much of a help. They said none of the Roxio products will do this.....

Ah well...

I don't work for Roxio.

Roxio's consumer $125 and under software I've seen won't do what you want.

There are DVD author houses that will make what you want, be prepared $$$.

Sonic sells professional software that is why I listed a phone #, perhaps the wrong #.

Here is the Professional Products Link,
