Label Creator Will Not Center Jewel Case Front Insert

Dachshund

Question

Good Morning,

Roxio Creator 2010 PRO, Windows 7, HP Inkjet, Dell laser printer.

I have been trying to print jewel case inserts after burning my Blu-Ray movies.

I have specified both Standard Paper and Commercial Paper (CD Stomper Pro-U-Card, Avery 8931). In all cases the back insert prints centered over the designated space on both printers. However, the front insert is always printed in the upper left corner of the page rather than centered.

Also, both the front and back inserts should be printed on the same page at the same time, but need to be printed individually by reinserting the paper.

I never had this problem with earlier editions of Roxio Creator.

Any help will be appreciated.

Dachshund

Which program are you using? The Express Labeler [Create Labels] or Roxio Label Creator [Create Labels - Advanced] ??

Were you using the same program in the earlier editions?

I tried both Express Labeler and Label Creator. Earlier, I was using Easy Media Creator 10 and numerous earlier editions of Roxio-I do not have the disks anymore to remind me of the 3 or 4 editions that I have used over the years.

It does not seem to be a problem of calibration as the back insert is centered in the correct location for the commercial paper.

Although, I do get an error message if I click on "Calibrate": "An unknown error occurred while accessing an unnamed file."

I have not had troubles like this with earlier editions.

Thank you for your response.

Hi Lee,

I went back, installing various versions to see what was available.

Back at EMC 7.5 there was a prominent facility to select the area to print, with a Page Setup screen:

However that was gone by EMC 9, and since then right through to Creator 2011 in the Roxio Label Creator [Create Labels Advanced] you need to use Print Preference to set where on the page Label Creator will print your label.

Set up your label and then click Print. You will get the Printer Settings page. Click Preferences and you will see the Print Preference box.

Check the Fine Tuning box, and you can set up vertical and horizontal offsets to place the label where you want it on the page.

I guess [although I didn't design the software] that the ability to put the label anywhere on the page and the variety of labels you can select are reasons they have opted to print one label per pass of the paper through the printer, rather than trying to juggle whichever labels an individual has selected and print them all in one pass.

Regards,

Brendon

Edit: Something I didn't mention - when you 'fine tune' the label position on the page, it isn't reflected in the Print Preview.

Good Evening Everyone,

When I try to print back and front labels for a CD/DVD case in Label Creator, an error message occurs when the "Calibrate" button is clicked. The error message is "An Unknown error occurred while accessing an unnamed file."

Maybe that is why "Fine Tuning" does not work afgter the "Preferences" is clicked.

Having numerous problems with Creator 2010 PRO.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Lee,

If you're "having numerous problems with Creator 2010" it may be that you have a bad install or a conflict with something else.

In the meantime if we can address the Label Creator printing problem, please tell me what happens when you try to use the "fine tuning".

Regards,

Brendon

I measured the horizontal (vertical is OK) movement needed to move the front insert from left to right and the image does not move on the printed page. Also, I measured both in inches and in centimeters, the later as (cm.) appears to the right of the input boxes. The offsets ranged from 0.5 to 2.5 inches and 1 to 5.0 centimeters. When I inserted the latter (5.0 cm), the printer outputed one blank page.

I did look at my previous registrations at My Account on the Roxio site, and found that I had used EMC 7 & 8 in the past. Did not have any problems with them.

Thank you for taking notice of my problem.

Okay Lee,

So it seems that if you try any offset up to the maximum 5cm, the image doesn't move on the page.

If you try the maximum 5cm offset you just get a blank page.

Also, you get that strange error when you try to 'calibrate'.

Is that an accurate summary?

It's starting to look as if something's messed up inside the software. Briefly, what are the other numerous problems you're having with it?

Hi Brendon,

Older computer: Vista SP2, Dell XPS 420

New computer: Windows 7, Dell Studio XPS 9100

Ticket #1160367 (If you have the authority to access it.)

When I purchased Roxio Creator 2010 PRO, I installed it on my older computer in August 2010. Used it a little, but no problems.

When I purchased my new computer in November, I installed Creator 2010 PRO on my new computer and have been trying to uninstall it from my older computer. Nothing will uninstall the files in Program Files/Roxio 2010. I have been back and forth with tech support for several week following all the directions in knowledgebase articles that they throw my way. Most of the time, the directions are repeats of what was suggested before.

Here is my last communication with them (I have to type a copy from the other computer.)

"I have followed our directions for the removal of Roxio Creator 2010 PRO from my older Vista computer. This I have done several times of the past several weeks as is evident in my correspondence with Roxio Tech Support.

"When using 'Add or Remove Programs', I receive the message 'Setup encountered an error during installation: Erros code 0467,' and the installation comes to a halt.

"When I use '[Microsoft Windows Installer Clean Up Utility', the Roxio/Sonic shortcuts on my desitop are removed and the applications are removed from the list in the Clean Up Utility, but the files for all the Roxio 2010 applications remain inb C:/program Files/Roxio 2010. Nothing will remove the. I have even tried removing them from the registry and running the uninstalls again, but the Roxio 2010 files keep reappearing.

"How do I get this program off my older computer."...

"What would happen if I reinstall/repair Roxio 2010 on my older computer to make sure the program is viable and then try to uninstall it again?"

Hello Lee,

I have a limited authority to moderate messages on the board here, but no ability at all to access any of Roxio's confidential or internal systems since I'm not an employee. I can't even see your email address.

From your message above you have two separate problems - the printing problem, and removing Creator 2010 from your older computer. They don't seem connected so I'll cheerfully work backwards. :)

[2] Since Add/Remove Programs uses the Microsoft Installer, it's common that you can't remove a bung installation with it. Usually the other steps in Roxio's "Clean install" instructions will get around that with paragraph 4, "Delete these folders from your hard drive. Not all folders may be present" once you've made sure all your hidden folders are being shown by Windows.

I can't understand why you can't remove these folders you mentioned. Is it a permissions thing? [anything's possible with Vista]. Are all the files and folders set to visible? What error do you get when you try?

In any event, others here have been praising and suggesting the use of "the Revo uninstaller in moderate mode" to take out the garbage. Perhaps it might help you.

[1] The printing problem. I don't have this problem, so my first thought was that something must have broken - perhaps during the installation - but I don't have a HP printer, and given the workarounds that HP owners have to use, perhaps the Roxio programmers don't have any HPs either. Maybe it's a programming error?

I'm loath to recommend a clean uninstall given the difficulty you're having with that, so I don't have an answer to this problem.

Regards,

Brendon

Sometimes there are files in the folders that are in use. If so, the folder cannot be deteted. You can however drag the folder to your desk top and reboot. You should then be able to delete the folders.

I do recommend Revo in the Moderate Mode. Just don't be surprised by the number of registry entries (several thousand) and go ahead to delete them.
