Dvd Player Compatibility

Glee999

Question

DVDs that I create produce "disk error" when I attempt to play them on a Toshiba DVD player. They can be played on my graphics PC running Win 7. I create DVDs using ImgBurn, and they play on the Toshiba player and the PC. Obviously a format issue with Easy VHS to DVD. I've searched Roxio KB with many terms, but cannot find any helpful entries. Many thanks for any suggestions -- much appreciated.

Can't really help without knowing the Version or Build number of V2D...

What media are you using, 'plus', 'dash', Verbatim, Junk???

How did you burn them with ImgBurn? How did you create the Image?

How did you burn them with Roxio? Settings?

Hi:

Thanks for your response. I had Pinnacle Studio with Dazzle on my computer before upgrading to Win 7, and already think I should have upgraded that package.

Easy VHS to DVD is new, About shows Build 201B23A ENU

Media is Memorex +R, though in the past with ImgBurn I have also successfully used Verbatim and TDK, all +R

ImgBurn has many pages of settings, I am using latest version with default settings. Writes .iso file.

I might be missing something, but I cannot find any meaningful "settings" for Easy VHS to DVD (I only see Menu Aspect Ratio, and Render Using Hardware/software--I have tried both)

I am relatively knowledgable about computers (build mine) and electronics, and I'm willing to dig; however, I cannot find any information on the Roxio site except the simplistic User Guide -- I'd like a user "manual" that describes operation with technical details so I can understand what is happening.

I suspect your using +R media?

Imgburn defaults the BookType BitSetting on +R media with certain burners to DVD-Rom.

Roxio doesn't, your Toshiba and several other settop players need it to play +R media.

Hi:

Thanks for your comments. I just responded with some additional detail to Jim_Harding.

I have always used +R with no problems, so I've never experimented. My recollection is that somewhere I read that +R was the best "general" format, and it has always worked for me on other players.

I quickly admit that I don't know the issue of compatibility across brands.

Should I switch to -R when using Easy VHS to DVD???

I would bet a switch to -R with a Roxio program and your Toshiba Settop player will cure the problem.

Actually a +R BookType BitSetting set to DVD-Rom is the best compatiable setting for all DVD Settop DVD Players.

That is what commercial pressed disc's are, DVD-ROM.

Thanks for the reply with the additional information.

I discovered that the DVD will play on a Samsung player, though not on the Toshiba. I am somewhat an "expert" with computers and electronics, but you obviously have detailed knowledge that I don't have.

I cannot discover any controls to change the settings for Easy.... How do I record "+R BookType BitSetting set to DVD-Rom"?? I'm willing to dig for information so that I understand the formatting issue, so I would appreciate a link for any on-line documents that I can use to "educate" myself. NOTE: I assume that this is an application software setting, not hardware in the drives that I use (Lite-On DVD/RW LH-20A1L SCSI CdRom). Using ImgBurn's default settings, any DVD that I record plays on any player that I have tried.

Thanks much for your advice,

Lee Shelton

There is no setting in Roxio but the utilities cd linked will set the drive to do it automatically.

It may not be the reason, but something you have to try to sort this out.

I already told Glee999 Roxio Software has no setting for +R BookType BitSetting set to DVD-Rom!

ImgBurn does it automatically with a LiteOn drive that is why it works in his Toshiba.

If Glee999 downloads dvd identifier v5.2.0 [January 10, 2009] here> http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

He will see Roxio burns a DVD +R BookType BitSetting as a DVD +R and ImgBurn Burns a DVD+R BookType

BitSetting as a DVD-Rom.

I supplied him with the LiteOn pdf manual and a link to the LiteOn BookType BitSetting Tool.

Glee999 states "I am somewhat an "expert" with computers and electronics" so he has all the tools now.

Thanks for the LiteON links. Manual is informative and the BookType Bitsetting utility is the ticket! DVDs burned as DVD-ROM now play on different players that wouldn't play before. Thanks again for your assistance.
