Label Creator From 7.5 On Windows 7 X64?

bajra79

Question

I read from http://forums.support.roxio.com/topic/62696-converting-jwl-files-into-roxio-creator-2009/ a way to use EMC 5 label creator on windows 7. Is there a similar work around that can be done with 7.5? I tried copying the entire label creaetor folder and just moving it to my windows 7 machine, but it won't run (even with compatibility mode) My computer was "upgraded" to 7 x64 by IT because it was new and shiney, but i use the label creator from 7.5 for about 50% of the work I do. most of if through a secondary program that auto generates labels for me as needed using label creator. I haven't the foggiest idea how to upgrade all my templates to any newer version of roxio, nor the inclination to do so since my other program stopped at 7.5 anyway. any help would be appreciated. And if this has already been asked and answered, if you could point me to the appropriate thread. My search ninjutsu has failed me on this topic

What Brendon is explaining in that post is you copy the label creator folder from a working install of ECD5 (mine came from W98SE) and then drop it in a folder anywhere. I have it on a slave drive on a W-7 x64 Pro box and it runs fine and looks like this.

I tried copying the entire label creator folder and just moving it to my windows 7 machine,

Is that what you have done with 7.5 label creator?

Brendon is in a different time zone and he's crashed now. I'll drop him a note and hopefully he will stop by later.

Yes i tried just copying the entire EMC 7.5 Label Creator folder off a retired XP machine. It was located in program files\roxio. There were no label creator files in program files\common files folder. I copied the file to my desktop for testing purposes the exe file is called RxLabelCreator.exe and it's file version is 7.5.0.47 if that helps. I'm not even sure if we have a copy ecdc5 around the office anymore but i do have the EMC 7.5 disc which is why i hoped this method might work for that version as well.

Bajra79,

I don't have good news, I'm afraid. I can't see a way around this. :(

By EMC 7 Sonic had acquired Roxio, and the Sonic influence was being felt on the software. Label Creator 7 has been altered, and won't run on its own even in XP. Not even grafting the whole \Program Files\Roxio branch helped.

Again, although Label Creator 5 will run happily in Windows 7, it doesn't think much of version 7 .JWL files. Label Creator 7's .JWL files are different, and I'm getting the dreaded incompatibility error when I try to load them into 5.

Best regards,

Brendon

as i posted here http://forums.support.roxio.com/topic/60766-is-emc-75-compatible-with-windows-7/

got the issue resolved kinda- Had to set up xp virtual machine and instal emc 7.5 to that, but i can use label creator again through it.

Just in case anyone else comes along looking for this information

 Darn back to the old drawing board then. Thanks for your input guys!

A cvaveat - while it may work for Label Creator, it WILL fail for other apps (and I'm not even sure if Label Creator will continue to work after a time)

We have had people trying this with later programs and that's what happened - it appeared to work for a short while and then it went faulty
