Does Roxio Capture Device Work With Other Media Programs?

danielles

Question

Earlier this week I purchased the Pinnacle DVD Recorder, only to find out afterward that the audio "device or driver" can not be recognized or found by other media players such as VLC media player or Blaze Media Pro.

So after a frustrating past 48hrs I broke down and purchased the Roxio easy VHS to DVD product. Unfortunately the company I bought the product from will not refund my money if I open the box.

So since I can not seem to find any issues with Roxio & VLC online I would like to believe that VLC recognizes the audio from Roxio.

Does anyone know if you open up VLC (windows 1.1.7)and go to Media -> Open Capture Device and then choose your video & audio device if you can hear & see whatever video you have playing in your vhs/vcr player?

Thanks for your help & time,

Danielle S

Easy VHS to DVD Software and accompanying hardware with drivers are designed to work together.

Mixing and matching software, hardware, and drivers, then expect them to work, all bets are off.

ok? I understand that...

Let me try and go a little bit more indepth and see if I can explain a little better.

Using the Pinnacle Dazzle DVD Recorder you can hear & see what it is that you want to capture. However when you launch VLC Media Player and go to Media -> Open Capture Device it'll ask you to select your audio device & video device. So I would select Dazzle as my video device but when I go to slect my audio device Dazzle would not be there. Which means that VLC does not see my dazzle audio driver/device. So when I hit the play button I see the tape playing in my VCR player but I can't hear anything. If I want to hear what's playing in my VCR player I have launch either one of the accompanying software programs that came with my Dazzle capture device. The problem is that you can't watch the video in full screen mode on either of the accompanying software programs.

Now had I done my home work before purchasing the product I would have known that there were issues with various media players & the dazzle product.

I just bought the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD product this morning since I couldn't seem to find any forum posts within Roxio & or VLC forums or even on Google saying that there were issues with VLC and Roxio. But just because I couldn't find people saying they were having audio issues doesn't mean that they don't exist.

I have Windows Vista 32bit with an AMD Dual Core 1.9 processor & 2gig of ram.

All I need to know if anyone has this product hooked up to a vhs player and VLC media player if when you launch vlc & go to media -> open capture device that your able to select the roxio easy vhs to dvd video device & audio device so that you can see & hear what's playing.

I don't want to open this thing only to find out that it to doesn't see the roxio audio device/driver and just like the dazzle product you can only see and NOT hear what's playing. Cause then I'll be stuck with it.

NO!

Question why not use any capture software and hardware the way they were designed?

Why are you trying to make other hardware and drivers work with vlc media player?

Thanks for all your help.

Q1: For all intense & purposes I am going to use my capture device for what it was designed for :)

Q2: The reason I want my capture device to work with VLC media player is because I want to be able to watch my vhs tapes in full screen without having to copy them to my hard drive or convert & burn them to dvd first.

I guess usb capture cards are not designed to work with media players which sucks.

Thanks again for getting back to me so quickly.

That is not what they were designed for.
