Roxio Creator Xe Won't Install

Bob_J

Question

I have recently acquired a LaCie d2 DVD RW Drive which comes bundled with Roxio Creator XE - which I think is a variant of Creator 10 (?)

The software won't install. The install process gets as far as 'Installing Roxio Update Manager' and then falls over with the error 'Roxio Creator XE Wizard was interrupted'.

I have tried many fixes that I have gleaned from these pages including the advice given by 'Sonic Boom'.

I have turned off ZoneAlarm and my anti-virus program and tried again. All to no avail.

I have in the recent past successfully used Roxio Creator 6 on this PC. However it had been uninstalled prior to trying to install the new software and I have since gone to great pains to more fully install it by following the manual instructions provided in Knowledgebase Article: 000056CR.

I still get the same installation error.

So now I am stuck with a new DVD writer that I cannot use - at least with the bundled software.

Can anyone help me please? I have no idea which way to go from here apart from giving up on Roxio and buying Nero or some other package - at more expense!

Any help most gratefully received!

Thanks in advance. Bob (Cardiff, UK)

You have a free, OEM version which means it is a "cut down/crippled/features missing" version of the full retail version.

Also you posted in the C2010 forum. C2010 is a completely different program from EMC 10 (2 version/years difference). LaCie is responsible for any issues you are having.

Supplying information on your OS would help.

It will also help immensely if you can find out exactly WHICH version of Creator XE it is.

These probably aren't a complete list, since the vendors dice and slice so much, but there's

Creator XE 8.2

Creator XE 9 Basic

Creator XE 9 Suite

Creator XE 9.1

Creator XE 10

Creator XE 10.3

Creator XE Blu-Ray 2010

Regards,

Brendon

Thanks for responding.

The installation disk supplied states, 'Easy Media Creator Suite 10'.

As installation proceeds (or doesn't in my case) it refers to the program as, 'Roxio Creator XE'.

Sorry to have posted in the wrong forum - which one should it have been? I can certainly re-post if that will help. In the meantime any suggestions are welcome.

My OS is XP SP3 by the way.

I believe that this is a Roxio issue. The software is bundled with the drive in the hope that the user will upgrade to the full version - which is probably what I would have done.

Thanks again for your help.

There is no forum on this site for OEM's

The XE indicates that what you have is a OEM piece of castrated software and support would be through LaCie support. Read this.. Most of us have never seen it and therefore have little experience in "fixing" it.

Try removing the software from your computer using Windows add or remove programs, prepare your computer like this and try to reinstall. Another handy tool is to remove the program via Revo Uninstaller in the MODERATE mode and then do the above.

Thanks - your link clarifying Rxio's position on OEM software is interesting.

The installation of this mysterious XE version of Roxio stops before installation of the software so there is nothing left to remove. (I have already exhaustively uninstalled all previous vestiges of other Roxio products on my PC)

I'll try LaCie, but I don't hold out much hope. I have already looked at their 'Support' offered online and it appears to leave a lot to be desired.

Thanks again for your help.

Nero here we come . . . . .

Why would you get Nero if LaCie does not support the software they gave you for free?

BTW, other DVD burners come with Nero software which is crippled as well. Would you then get Roxio?

How do you get Nero OEM from LaCie?

Okay, Okay I give in - it was a bit daft/illogical to say that!

But the bottomline is that Roxio software (be it OEM) doesn't want to install on my PC. Had it done so I would probably have upgraded as I have used earlier versions of the software quite happily. What to do? I could buy a Nero OEM disk very cheaply on eBay and try that. If that works I may well upgrade to the full package.

Thanks for your help.

Some of those were designed to work with the burner they were bundled with. As long as that burner is installed on your PC it will work, it not it won't.

What burner did the OEM disc on eBay come from?
