"dongle" And Software Compatibility With Pc

Question

I purchased the Roxio VHS to DVD package for the PC. I am now wondering if the "dongle" that came with the PC version will work on a Mac? If so, will I need additional software to capture video on the Mac? Thanks for any scoop.

My understanding is the PC version doesn't work with the Mac.

Are you saying that the USB hardware "dongle" is different for the PC version or that the software is different or both?

The only thing that might be the same is the cable from the device to the computer. I believe the encoding device itself is different and the software is definitely different. I don't have both products to make a confirmed comparison. Assuming you still have your PC it makes sense to me to capture the video with it and then transfer that video file to your Mac if needed. However, if you want to edit the video on a Mac you'll need to convert it from MPEG 2 to (most likely) MPEG 4 H.264. Toast and Popcorn can do that conversion.
