Toast 10.0.8

Question

Hello

Mac PPC Mini Tower 1.8 GHz OS 10.5.7

I have contacted support and they answered very promptly, but nothing they advised has changed the problem. I get the message that I do not have sufficient privileges to do this.

At one point got all kinds of media incompatibility errors. All media that I used gave this [five different brands including well-know names].

Was told to go to:

]Click on Apple Icon-->System Profiler-->user account-->pad lock symbol-->enter password to unlock.

First I do not know what Apple Icon they could mean except the one in the Dock, but that doesn't get me there. If I go to System Profiler, it doesn't take me to user account etc. So I went to the Accounts Prepane and unlocked padlock. Mad no difference.

I can back up to another HD with another program, but it doesn't back up to DVDs or CDs. It is always best to back up to at least two different types of media. Paranoia is healthy with a CPU.

Is it just not possible to use Toast to back up an HD? Never have been able to. Gave up trying a few years ago. Thought newer version might have changed this problem.

Help please!

The instruction should have been to open System Preferences (which can be done from either the "Apple" menu (where Apple's logo appears at the top left of the screen) or from the Dock. Click Accounts and you'll see the padlock to unlock.

Hello and thanks, but I went right to my Accounts Prepane anyway, but it stays locked no matter what I do after I close the Prepane window. I would think once unlocked it would remain so as other such items do.

You say you backed up to another hard drive. Have you tried copying that to disc using Toast instead of the original source? Also, have you tried leaving the Accounts preference pane open and unlocked? I've never tried using Toast to backup an entire root drive so I don't know what to advise.

I haven't tried backing up the backup using Toast. The Accounts Preference Pane padlock will not stay open once I leave it. Has always done that with every version of OSX. Going to try backing up as you suggested. Thanks!

Hi and thanks.

Gave up on Toast. Toast 10.0.8 has been more trouble that the money I have spent over time. It works OK on one type of DVD, but any DL DVDs are always a problem. Try to do a TS Compilation: NOT!

Going to set up a drive with an earlier version of Toast. I had fewer errors with earlier versions. Will do this even if I have to "downgrade" the system software on that HD.

As far as my back up attempts, I received a copy of Prosoft Back Up with a new HD. It works great on Volume back ups and DVD/CD back ups. Worked flawlessly on ever DVD back up. Haven't tried DVD DL disks yet.

Thanks again.
