I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a desktop computer running an ASUS P5Q motherboard with an Intel Core 2 Duo running at 3.0 Ghz and 2GB RAM. Video card is a GeForce 9800GT. Operating system is XP Pro, and there is over 247GB free space on the hard drive.
Up until now I have been running Nero 10 to capture video and produce DVDs from my Sony handycam. I have an AV cable running from my Sony handycam. At the other end is an S-video connection, which plugs into the back of of the computer via the video card. With Nero I haven't had a problem streaming and recording video from my handycam.
However when I use Video Lab HD the preview screen displays the same images on my handycam screen (which is expected), but when in Record mode the video streams for a few seconds and then gives me "Unknown capture error" message. This happens every time I press the record button. I checked the settings, which is set at S-Video connection, is set at DVD HQ (mpeg-2), the Status tells me "Ready to capture", and the Device drop-down list only gives me the one option of video card. This is all basically the same settings as in Nero.
I then tried another tack and hooked up a Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 DVD Creator, which I had lying around, and looks remarkably like the Roxio Video Capture USB Device. Although the status says "Ready to capture", and the other settings are set the same as the previous example, the preview screen is black, and nothing is recorded.

Why does it stop recording in the first example?
