Slideshow Bug In Toast 10.0.8?

Richard Harton

Question

Hi,

I have a problem with creating slideshows on DVD video. No matter what I try, the slideshow seems to be limited to only 50 images on a standard DVD although there is plenty of space available on the disk. If I add more than 50 images, Toast will simply crash when at 99% of conversion.

I have tried to: burn the slideshow with different brands of DVD, DVD-RW, with jpeg, tiff and raw images, with 60, 75, 99, 175 images in it, adding the photos or not to the DVD, trash the preferences file to no avail. Toast is crashing all the time when exporting. No error messages, it simply crash when at 99% of conversion.

If I reduce the slideshow to 50 images or less, then the conversion process goes through and the DVD is burning fine. I can't believe I can't put more than 50 photos and 125Mb of slideshow on a DVD!

This is a new installation of Toast Titanium 10.0.8 on a Mac Pro 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with Mac OS X 10.6.6 and 32 GB of RAM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes there is a bug in at least the recent versions of Toast 10. Each slide is shown twice. Since there is a limit of 99 slides per DVD title adding 50 or more images to a title causes Toast to exceed the 99 limit. I haven't checked which version of Toast 10 started this bug. If you have an earlier version available you can try that. Another user had Toast 9 available and it works. I know that iDVD's slide show features work as well.

Thank you so much for your quick reply tsantee.

After troubleshooting this during two days, your post confirms the only conclusion possible with this issue. I will try to revert back to an earlier version.

If it's a known bug, then why Roxio Customer Care is sending me a knowledgebase article about burning issues?

Hi,

I have a problem with creating slideshows on DVD video.

Try dragging the photos to toast in groups of less than 50. If you're using the DVD-Video tab, each slideshow group will be progressively numbnered 'slideshow 1', slideshow 2, etc. Set the options to 'play all items continuously' and you'll be able to show all the slides from group to group without having the menu page show up. Bear in mind that if you're using a timed advance between slides, the times will be double what shows in the pop-up menu. If you're using a manual advance, you'll need to press play twice to advance to the next slide.
